NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“If youre looking for a book to take on holiday this summer, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo has got all the glitz and glamour to make it a perfect beach read.” —Bustle

From the New York Times bestselling author of Daisy Jones & the Six—an entrancing and “wildly addictive journey of a reclusive Hollywood starlet” (PopSugar) as she reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the risks she took, the loves she lost, and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine.

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

“Heartbreaking, yet beautiful” (Jamie Blynn, Us Weekly), The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is “Tinseltown drama at its finest” (Redbook): a mesmerizing journey through the splendor of old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means—and what it costs—to face the truth.

The beginning was a little slow. But after the stories of each husband it became harder to stop reading. I was not ready for the ending twist. Highly recommend

I devoured this book. It was just so good. I always needed to know the next part. Monique is right that Evenyn is captivating; her maneuvering of all the players of her story is masterful and her reveal of each origin is as well. It’s also interesting how she has to hide from the trauma in her life yet any story she told was played to the tabloids like fodor for hungry wolves. Overarching is the social commentary on how she had to hide her love. It’s something that I’m sure still happens in Hollywood today. The 21st century + how we like reading about others drama. I am guilty & maybe that’s part of the compulsion to get through this novel. It felt refreshing for me to read a novel like this where it was certainly an Evelyn against the world. She wanted to be a part of the very thing that destroyed her. She exploited what others wanted to exploit about her. Ultimately there are lessons about all the types of love in life. Some maybe not so right and others traditional. About celebrity; creating your own narrative, the of personality; list & a slew of others. If any of this interests you I highly recommend this book. It’s a llfe is an adventure tale where most heavy subjects are dealt with shallowly as that’s not the what identifies Evelyn. I think I will have to read some of this authors other work. Seen the Daisy & the 6 show - but now I know I like the writing style I will pursue more.

Incredible story. I’m rather annoyed by some of the bigoted reviews, but they tell more about those reviewers than the book itself. This book is tender and bold, and beautiful and a little wretched, in the most captivating way. TJR nails it, yet again. ♥️
