Description

When small town Nebraska sheriff Hixon Drake meets Greta Dare, the connection couldn't be stronger, but the timing couldn't be worse.
Dealing with the fallout of a divorce he never wanted and setting up a new home for his kids, Hix becomes that guy, that one he never wanted to be, and puts a stop to things before they can even start. Protecting his kids, and himself, is his only priority.
Greta, on the other hand, has found the place for her and the brother she adores that's perfect for them—a sleepy little town in Nebraska. She's learned from life that there are no hopes and dreams. The only thing to look forward to is peace. And that's what she works hard to build for herself and her brother. Right up until Hix walks into her life.
Hix can't fight the pull and stay away from Greta for long. And Greta's finding it hard not to hope for something more with all the promise that is Hix.
But when the first murder that's happened in over five decades rocks his small, sleepy county, Hix has got to learn to trust again, convince Greta to take a shot with him, and at the same time catch a killer.
In other words, things are definitely…Complicated.

First time I’ve really debated on a 4 or 5 star review for a Kristen Ashley book. She’s the best!! But at time this was slow.....

Great story. Wasn't sure how they were gonna catch the killer. Very happy to see the widow found a way back to living again.

I love Kristen Ashley but can't read more than 2 books in a row....because of the quirky sentence structure and syntax. I find myself getting lost and having to re-read whole passages. But in Complicted the run on sentences seem to be less and the syntax more "normal". This book reminded me of the Sweet Dreams series.....a solid hero and a feisty heroine. I loved how it was as much a story about Hix being blindsided with his divorce as Greta and her story of survival. Ms Ashley always has well developed side characters and this book is no exception. My only complaint is the reason behind the divorce is unbelievable....esp Hope's regret after the fact. All in all, this is classic Kristen Ashley and has everything I love when I pick up one of her books!

Never been disappointed in any of the books I have read by Kristen Ashley. This has nothing to do with her but my book every time ended there was a blank page and can’t remember what chapter but last page was in there again then a blank page

Loved this book about small town gossip, love lost & found. It’s a nice change of pace reading a romance novel about 40-something’s. As usual KA wrote a long, winding story of romance, suspense & humor. Everything that I love most about her books!
  • Disappointed, nothing new

There is nothing new about this story. I've read most of Kristen Ashley's book, some of them more than once. She's been one of my favorite authors. But I struggled trying to finish this one. It's a " gorgeous, handsome man, with a with a bad ex-wife, who falls for a extremely beautiful woman who's perfect for him" kind of story..... Ms. Ashley seems to be on repeat with this kind of storylines. Spoiler: when I got to the part where Hix is so unforgiving of the ex-wife's reason for divorce, but tells Greta he'd got a second job to buy the ring his wife wanted, I almost put the book away. But, what kept mr eventually finishing was , I was to know how the murder was solved.

This was another wonderful read from KA. Nothing unusual when it comes to this author. What I love is the immediate connection with all her characters and since I've read everyone of her books, it's like coming home for me. Thank you for letting us into your world KA, always a pleasure visiting you.
