The Asteri have kept their word so far, leaving Bryce and Hunt alone. But with the rebels chipping away at the Asteri's power, the threat the rulers pose is growing. As Bryce, Hunt, and their friends get pulled into the rebels' plans, the choice becomes clear: stay silent while others are oppressed, or fight for what's right. And they've never been very good at staying silent.

The first book started slow and ended good so I was hesitant about how the second would be. I wasn’t disappointed. It was even better than the first! So much going on in such detail. The only thing I would say is sometimes it would be helpful if the author made it more clear when she’s switching from the point of view of one character to another
  • Even better than the first book of the series!

I spent the last several days forgoing my responsibilities, and sometimes sleep and food, to binge this series. I really enjoyed this second book although this is my first SJM series so I only knew the end referenced her other series once I read the reviews.
  • The best work of the author so far!

This book stands above all other books S. J. Maas has written so far! including “A Court of Silver Flames” in ACOTAR series! There are many elements/reasons that helps this book (n series) to surpass other ones! Elements n concepts like portrayals of a multiverse with parallel dimensions n worlds, high diversity of characters, ethnicities, n species! The writing voice is much more complex n creative! The power n magic in this series are portrayed in a universal n cumulative world where all beings n their powers are dependent on other beings n things! Here, you won’t face a handful of characters with almost total power/control over the whole world, independently! Here, kings and high level authorities fall short in their power n capabilities vs (so-called) lessers n ordinances!!
