Four and a half stars Rancher After Midnight by Karen Booth is part of the multi author continuity Texas Cattleman’s Club: Ranchers and Rivals. Heath Thurston has a long-standing grudge against the Grandin and Lattimore families in Royal, Texas, for what he believes to be their role in the untimely deaths of his beloved sister and mother. Ruby Rose Bennet is a surveyor hired to determine the possibility of oil on the Grandin and Lattimore properties. When Heath and Ruby meet in person, it’s clear that there exists a lot of potential for more than merely a professional relationship. Karen Booth writes Heath and Ruby with deep emotions and warm possibilities. Heath’s pain is fierce and justified and while Ruby recognizes his wounds, she also knows from her own painful experiences that vengeance is a cold and demanding partner. Her buoyant attitude encourages Heath to begin considering a brighter future. Ms Booth’s story is a lovely reminder that love changes us all for good.
