Description

When Willow is born with severe osteogenesis imperfecta, her parents are devastated—she will suffer hundreds of broken bones as she grows, a lifetime of pain. In this provocative story from the #1 New York Times bestselling author, “Picoult writes with unassuming brilliance” (Stephen King).

Every expectant parent insists the same thing: they simply want a healthy baby. Charlotte and Sean O’Keefe wanted the same but instead, their lives are made up of sleepless nights, mounting bills, pity from other parents, and haunting what-ifs.

Yet, in other ways, their daughter Willow is a perfect child. Smart as a whip, beautiful, brave, and kind, Willow is Willow, in sickness and in health.

Everything changes, though, after a series of events forces Charlotte and Sean to confront the most serious what-ifs of all. What if Charlotte had known earlier of Willow’s illness? What if things could have been different? What if their beloved Willow had never been born? To do Willow justice, Charlotte must ask herself these questions and one more: what constitutes a valuable life?

“Well-written and conscientiously researched” (The Washington Post), Handle with Care is an unforgettable and emotionally riveting novel that explores the fragility of life and the lengths we go to protect it.

I was very invested in this book despite the horrible and unlikeable mother. But the ending completely ruined anything that was good or compelling about this story.

The family in this story is very relatable in their mixed feelings and reactions as the story unfolds. The information about OI is heart breaking. The ups and downs of all the characters…gut wrenching. Picoult has a way of educating you and causing you to think and rethink your own perspectives.

I should have just given up but couldn’t after i invested myself - truly disappointing in every way. Hated the mother and there was no development or closure with the other characters. Spare yourself a waste of a read in my opinion. Nothing redeeming and a horrible ending. And a terrible subject to begin with - ugh - the mom! Being a mom did not in any way shape or form see her reasoning - just awful.

There were so many moments I found myself having to put this one down to gather myself. As always, Picoult, portrays each characters emotions, thoughts, and actions so vividly. Picoult is one of my favorite authors and this book is in my top 10 hands down. I encourage you to give it a read!

This book is probably my favorite. The twist the turns and the pain. How far would you go to do what needed to be done for your child when it means destroying relationships. The ending left me stunned and mad. I was at work and finished and started fussing and the coworker asked what happened. I told her I just couldn’t believe what had happened. I can never anticipate the endings but this one left me stunned.
