Description

Ann Aguirre's thrilling young adult novel Enclave is the story of two young people in an apocalyptic world--facing dangers, and feelings, unlike any they've ever known.

New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters--or Freaks--who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight--guided by Fade's long-ago memories--in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs.

Character development, plot consistency, and tight construction put this novel at the top of mutant apocalypse genre heap. It's vivid, smart, and breaks many of my preconceptions of what this type of fantasy entails.

I'm 28 and i love reading dystopian books wether they're intended for younger audiences or not. So, if you're like me and love these kinds of books give it a chance its really good and it draws you in from the get go. This book in particular was exceptionally raw and at moments i literally cringed by what was happening. The author does not hold back on world and character building so its very satisfying on those ends. She also touches lightly on hard subjects and i was impressed by her finesse on doing so. This book is hard to read sometimes because of the descriptions she gives constantly about the poverty, emaciation, the fights, the cuts, the "freaks" even the water. It also speaks about hope and independence and more importantly self actualization and personal growth (even if the heroine is 14-15yrs old she does go through all that). I liked the book a lot!

Enclave falls in line with other popular dystopian books such as Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, and Divergent. If you are a fan of those books Enclave is worth reading. The nly down side to Enclave is that it is paced slow and not a lot is accomplished by the main characters.

Let me just say that simply because the Hunger Games is a dystopian society themed science fiction book, not all science fiction books are like that. The plots are completely different. This is more City of Ember and Forest of Hands and Teeth. Honestly I don't see any outstanding comparison to the Hunger Games that wouldn't also apply to, hmm I don't know, try every other moderately dystopian-like Sci-fi book in the known universe. So just a heads up!

I generally don't write reviews because I'm too lazy but this book is making me break my bad habit- rightfully so. I loved this book and the main character, deuce. She was strong and smart and this book is a great quick read. Its meant for a younger audience, but still kept me interested. The thing I liked best about this book was that the reasons for the apocalypse weren't a huge leap. The readers aren't asked to believe in something that is a stretch of the imagination. But at the same time, this is because the reasons are never fully known by the narrator and therefore, what happened is never fully acknowledged to the readers. That explanation kind of doesn't make sense but I also don't want to give too much away! Anyways- good writing, great characters, go apocalypse!

Abruptly. Also, the relationship between deuce and fade was good in the beginning but kind of was left out at the end. I wouldn't recommend this book for the price they are asking

The book was fine, but all of these young adult apocalypse books are starting to blend together. This one was not very special and had generic content, but I appreciated how there were not any obvious holes in the plot and the fact that romance did not take up a large percentage of the novel. If ur bored over the weekend or have not read many young adult apocalypse books, i would recommend this, but the maze runner books by James Dashner are much more interesting reads. (I actually felt while reading this book that the Freaks were not an original idea. They were really a copy of the Cranks in dashner's novels.)

This is a really good book! If you are a Hunger Games fan, you should definately read this. It's very similar but the plot is very unpredictable. Enclave has the same darkness as the Hunger Games & I can see this book being a best seller in a few years from now....I don't know anyone who wouldn't enjoy this book... I read it in about 3 days; he, he!
