Description

New York Times bestselling author and former special forces officer Brad Taylor is back with a propulsive and topical edge-of-your-seat thriller featuring Pike Logan as he goes head-to-head with Putin’s henchmen.

To finally end the war between their nations, a rogue band of Ukrainian partisans known as the Wolves teams up with members of Russia’s military intelligence to assassinate Vladimir Putin.

But Putin is aware of the traitors in his midst and assigns the loyal commander of the Russian National Guard to root them out. It’s a mission Victor Petrov is expected to undertake after he prevents Sweden from joining NATO—by assassinating a deputy minister of foreign affairs.

After receiving intelligence about the threat in Sweden, the United States sends Pike Logan to identify Petrov’s target—only for him to get caught in the crossfire between Putin’s agents and the Wolves. When the smoke clears, Pike makes no effort to stop the Wolves on their ultimate mission, believing it just, until he discovers that their operation has unimaginable consequences.

For Putin is preparing a devastating endgame: activating the Dead Man’s Hand nuclear response that will launch Russia’s missiles in the event of his death. . .

I would have enjoyed it more, if I had not gotten hung up on the author’s inability to find a synonym for the word snarled. He can do action, complete with all the appropriate lingo, but having just finished new books by James Lee Burke, and John Connolly I found myself wishing for more descriptive language, something that would make me turn back a page and reread it. Thinking, I can’t write like that. How does he do it?
  • Too much

There are too many characters and a very convoluted plot to this book- hard to figure out who are the good guys and who were the bad guys.
  • Same old same old

Took me weeks to read. Not engaging at all. Skipped many pages just to get through it.

This book read more like a screen play at times. The plot was good, and the character development ok…but the dramatic language and over emphasis was tedious and tiring. I hope you get a made for tv movie out of it, but for reading pleasure it was just average

This book is a total bore. I truly couldn’t get into it. The same old characters doing the same old thing. The book lacks energy and the writing is labored. Just when we think things are going to move forward, author Taylor repeats ideas, concepts, and imagery from other books in the Pike Logan series. There’s nothing new left to say about Pike, Jennifer, or Knuckles, etc. I stopped reading it, but I have kept the book just in case I want to try it again, but that’s doubtful. I did buy the new Gray Man novel, and I am going to move past Pike and read about Courtland.

I just couldn’t settle into this book. I’ve read and liked the rest of the series but Dead Man’s Hand took me forever to get through. Didn’t like the interaction between Pike and Jennifer’s characters this time either.
