Description

INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The latest Stephanie Plum novel from #1 New York Times bestseller and “the most popular mystery writer alive” (The New York Times) Janet Evanovich.

She said yes to Morelli. She said yes to Ranger. Now Stephanie Plum has two fiancés and no idea what to do about it. But the way things are going, she might not live long enough to marry anyone.

While Stephanie stalls for time, she buries herself in her work as a bounty hunter, tracking down an unusually varied assortment of fugitives from justice. There’s Eugene Fleck, a seemingly sweet online influencer who might also be YouTube star Robin Hoodie, masked hero to the homeless, who hijacks delivery trucks and distributes their contents to the needy. She’s also on the trail of Bruno Jug, a wealthy and connected man in the wholesale produce business who is rumored to traffic young girls alongside lettuce and tomatoes. Most terrifying of all is Zoran—a laundromat manager by day and self-proclaimed vampire by night with a taste for the blood of pretty girls. When he shows up on Stephanie’s doorstep, it’s not for the meatloaf dinner.

With timely assists from her stalwart supporters Lula, Connie, and Grandma Mazur, Stephanie uses every trick in the book to reel in these men. But only she can decide what to do about the two men she actually loves. She can’t hold Ranger and Morelli at bay for long, and she’s keeping a secret from them that is the biggest bombshell of all. Now or never, she’s got to make the decision of a lifetime.

** SPOILERS ** The writing style for Stephanie Plum has changed. Perhaps this is due to most recent change of publishers. There are good things, like more depth to some of their crime/drama/mysteries and more length to the books themselves, but there are definitely bad things for true Stephanie fans as well. For instance, changing her best friend’s name from Mary Lou to Mary Ann, Joe no longer calling her Cupcake (OK, once), Ranger no longer being referenced as Cuban-American but just of Spanish decent (while true in broad strokes but not all & why the change?). On the subject of Ranger, I definitely miss the sexual tension between the pair. There has always been animal magnetism, so I find it hard to believe that he would not plant some serious kisses on his new fiancé upon returning from out of town, let alone plan on spending the night with her! I for one miss the heat between them as well as the mocha-latte references. I also miss the humor that used to be present in this series. While there are humorous events and humor with Grandma Mazur, there hasn’t been anything like Kevin the giraffe in Takedown 20 since the switch to Simon and Schuster. S&S need to better review for spelling & continuity in case Mary Ann was a mistake, also grandma Mazur v. Grandma Mazur. All the characters seemed to have been toned down. Too much in my opinion, especially Lula. While we’ve seen Lula progress on many fronts and has had some keen insight, I feel she’s just too dry now. I’m very glad there continue to be Stephanie Plum novels. I’m a huge fan and will continue to read them, but for how much longer really depends on how much further down this path they run. Still time to make some changes, to the writing style and this particular plot line.

I want to say it was the best yet but I feel like that every time. I don’t know how she keeps this going but I’m engaged the whole time, every book. Well done Janet! Thank you so much for your hard work!

I really enjoy these books. This ending was set up well and not at all surprising but I was a little disappointed in the choice.
  • One of her best yet!

I loved the familiarity that enhanced the characters more than other recent books. The plot is a lot of fun! My only disappointment is that I read some of the reviews before I finished the book. SPOILER ALERT should have been included in all of those. Then you would keep up the suspense on who she marries rather than knowing the ending. So stop now if you’re reading reviews before you read the book.
  • One of the best Stephanie Plum novels, yet!

I truly enjoyed this book in the Stephanie Plum series. It’s laugh out loud funny, while also capturing your heart, especially in the end. Not sure who is better in this one…Morelli or Mr. Big! Every time I finish a Janet Evanovich novel, I am ready for the next one. Everything she writes is golden, and this one shines bright. Enjoy!!
