Magenta Mine

Harry Boyle and Magenta Fraser grew up in Invertary: he left to pursue an education while Magenta rather lingered in town, doing her best never to fit in and exploring all the old abandoned mines and caves peppering the town. A touch of the goth, with her plain-spoken take no prisoners approach, Magenta is bold, brash and abrasive. Until Harry returns. Harry left town after high school, fueled by his genius, and is now returning to Invertary. He wants to check in on the friend he never could forget, and the one who pushed him away years ago. Finding Magenta still pushing him off is frustrating, and it doesn’t seem that his new friend Lake or his wife and Magenta’s boss Kirsty are helping at all with their interference. It isn’t until Betty – as wide as she is tall, with a talent for interference speaks up, does Harry dare to make a move. He is, however, locked in a tunnel for his efforts, and Magenta is the logical option to rescue him. So – this isn’t perfect by any means, but a perfectly delightful lighthearted and funny story. The quirky characters manage to intrigue, amuse, interfere and support our budding couple of Harry and Magenta with equal measures of poke, prod, tease and outright trickery. Add in a series of ‘you’ll only get this in small towns’ humor, a touch of prankster and a dash of the twisted progression that is familiar with a novel by Henderson and you’ve got a great read for anywhere. It isn’t necessary to read this in order, but you might want to start with Lingerie Wars to affix the town and the people in your head.
