Description

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert continues her smoking-hot series about two feuding families—and their wealthy, powerful, and scandalous secrets.

Carrigan O'Malley has always known her arranged marriage would be more about power and prestige than passion. But after one taste of the hard-bodied, whiskey-voiced James Halloran, she's ruined for anyone else. Too bad James and his family are enemy number 1.

Hallorans vs. O'Malleys-that's how it's always been. James should be thinking more about how to expand his family's empire instead of how silky Carrigan's skin is against his and how he can next get her into his bed. Those are dangerous thoughts. But not nearly as dangerous as he'll be if he can't get what he wants: Carrigan by his side for the rest of their lives.

The Wedding Pact by Katee Robert is the second book in her new series, The O'Malleys. We return to the story from where book one left off about four months later. It is told in multiple POV's mostly between the main characters, but we also get a few insights into the secondary characters and their turmoil. Well-written and well-paced it was a very enjoyable read and I can't wait to see what comes next - let the drama begin.

I wish I had known that this story was part of a series. There is apparently a lot that happens in the first book that sets the scenes and characters for this story. The two main characters James and Carrigan had a bit of history...in that he kidnapped her. I didn't understand where their attraction came from. After I got some flashback type of storyline, it was easy to pick up and the characters are strong and interesting in themselves. There are many other prominent characters who the story flips to quite often. I highly recommend reading the first book The Marriage Contract first. I'm going to go back and read it because I do like the storyline. The sex is hot. The characters are mostly just this side of completely shady. But it kept the pages turning.
  • Emotionally charged story!!!

Very emotional, fantastic mob-style romance. Different territories, different ruling families and someone's bound cross the lines. In the second story of The O'Malleys series it's Carrigan's turn. She doesn't want any of the men her father's chosen for her to marry. She wants the one man she shouldn't want. The one man she can't have. James Halloran. The story is full of sadness, uncaring and crazy fathers and through all the emotional ups and downs, there's love. It's a love that I didn't think was possible. There's so much action in the story that everything happens at a fast pace. For me, it felt like the story only slowed down during those perfectly intimate scenes between James and Carrigan. SIZZLING! There are so many O'Malley siblings and so little time. I can't wait to read more of this series from this amazing author. Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

Book one sucked me and made me fall in love with this trio of crime families, and I haven’t been the same since. Book two cements that love, especially for Carrigan and James, whose forbidden, clandestine affair is the main focus of The Wedding Pact. Carrigan is everything I love in a heroine: strong, intelligent, gutsy, and determined. James, despite being thrust into being the head of the Halloran crime organization and having to carry out unspeakable acts, is an alpha male with a soft heart. He’s determined to find ways to legitimize the Halloran businesses and protect those in his care. He and Carrigan try to resist one another, but the attraction between them is too elemental and undeniable. When they come together, it’s explosive. I love everything about this story, especially the author’s perfect portrayal of the emotional conflict and torture some of the characters suffer. They are trapped, almost helpless, manipulated, and controlled by their families and the weight of their responsibilities. They yearn to lead lives of their own choosing, not the lives they’ve been forced into just by virtue of being born into mafia families, yet fear leaving behind those families and all they’ve ever known. The author illustrates their pain so thoroughly my heart aches for them. The Wedding Pact is dark, emotional, intense, riveting, and incredibly erotic. It made me laugh, cry, curse, horny, and my heart literally pound in fear and anticipation. I’m completely invested and cannot wait to see how good triumphs over evil when these characters get their HEA in book three. 4.5 stars
