Description

From #1 New York Times bestselling author and radio host Mark R. Levin comes a searing plea for a return to America’s most sacred values.

In Rediscovering Americanism, Mark R. Levin revisits the founders’ warnings about the perils of overreach by the federal government and concludes that the men who created our country would be outraged and disappointed to see where we've ended up.

Levin returns to the impassioned question he's explored in each of his bestselling books: How do we save our exceptional country? Because our values are in such a precarious state, he argues that a restoration to the essential truths on which our country was founded has never been more urgent. Understanding these principles, in Levin’s words, can “serve as the antidote to tyrannical regimes and governments.” Rediscovering Americanism is not an exercise in nostalgia, but an appeal to his fellow citizens to reverse course.

This essential book brings Levin’s celebrated, sophisticated analysis to the troubling question of America's future, and reminds us what we must restore for the sake of our children and our children's children.

One of Levin's best works, a keeper. I had to have the hard back edition of my library, and I'm sure this will be another phenomenal best seller!

The book is well researched, and his perspective is well argued. But a couple of criticisms are in order. First; the length. Although the book is short, Mr. Levin travels through the same territory over and over again. In fact, one lengthy quote appears twice in less than 50 pages. The passage is cited for different purposes, yet why not organize his thoughts a little more carefully? Second, he quotes himself. While I find Mr. Levin's observations astute, I am always struck by a certain level of conceit when any author states: "As I first pointed out in my book...". Yes, he did develop and explain his perspective on certain issues already in other books, so why do it yet again here? But I would say in balance that if you are not familiar with his perspective, it's a book worth reading and studying. I took a political philosophy class 40 years ago in college because I had to. Here, Mr. Levin offers me a new look at some old philosophers whose names I had long forgotten. I dare any college political science professor today to assign this book as required reading for the purposes of balancing the liberal perspective so pervasive in modern academia. If professors and students were honest, I think they would see that "Mr. levin has probably got it right."
