Description

This novella was originally published in November 2011. It has been reissued with a new cover.

Some wallflowers bloom at night…

Violet is a quiet girl. She speaks six languages, but seldom raises her voice. The gentlemen aren't beating down her door.

Until the night of the Spindle Cove Christmas ball, when a mysterious stranger crashes into the ballroom and collapses at Violet's feet. He's wet, chilled, bleeding, and speaking in an unfamiliar tongue.

Only Violet understands him. And she knows he's not what he seems.

She has one night to draw forth the secrets of this dangerously handsome rogue. Is he a smuggler? A fugitive? An enemy spy? She needs answers by sunrise, but her captive would rather seduce than confess.

To learn his secrets, Violet must reveal hers—and open herself to adventure, passion, and the unthinkable… Love.

I really enjoyed the light and entertaining theme and depiction of the characters. It made me smile and I liked the feelings they had for each other. Kept me reading till the end.

I love language, languages, and polyglots—which Violet is. The young girl, long in love with the boy—well, duke’s third son—next door, and never really seen by him as a desirable young woman until one night, when he does. It alters her life for the worse, and without saying why, she moves to Spindle Cove ( which sounds like a village or town on the US Eastern Seaboard) to attempt to heal, away from the scene of The Disappointment and uncomfortable questions. At a ball the night before she must return home, a bloodied stranger collapses at her feet.m, a stranger who looks all too familiar. She may still choose to be a wallflower at balls, but (pardon me) she is no shrinking violet, not the self-effacing girl she was a year before. I can’t say more without spoilers, but I like the woman she’s become. I really enjoyed the story, even though it’s the second in a series, and I haven’t read the first one yet.
