Description

Eleanor Benton has lived most of her life under the protective watch of her widowed father. A tragic, life-altering event robbed her of the person she could have been. When she is brought to stay with her relatives on a horse ranch in Montana, she meets a man who reaches out to her in ways no one else has ever done.

Lance Taggart prefers being a drifter and doesn’t believe in putting down roots. Together with his canine companion, he finds solace in keeping his distance from those who cannot see past his mixed-blood heritage. When his boss' quiet, auburn-haired niece arrives at the ranch, his priorities are about to change.

Facing the daily misunderstandings and harsh realities of an often cruel, close-minded society, Lance and Ellie fight to overcome what others perceive as barriers. Will their love be strong enough to withstand the truth that links their pasts in a way they never imagined?

Peggy L Henderson writes the most marvelous books. If you enjoy Louis L’Amor, Peggy is his equal in romance! You truly fall into the book and loose yourself. Her characters are magnificently crafted, good and bad. The scenery is accurate and wonderfully written. The plot has fantastic twists and turns. I visited Deer Lodge, MT once and visited the Koors Ranch. It could have been one of the ranches described here. A page turner for short and easily read in one shot, which makes it even better as you get to stay in the story. Thank you, thank you, thank you Peggy!

In his Kiss Lance, half-breed with an Indian mother and white soldier father was forced from Lakota heritage for socialization in white men’s culture in PA. Ellie, whose mother was killed by white men but cut Ellie’s throat and left her for dead when Indians took their horses. Both characters suffered trauma while young and lack of tolerance in their current lives. While 19th century society lacks in understanding diversity, they find acceptance and love in each other. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book keeping the reader immersed in suspense but hopeful for resolution.

I just love Peggy's books. This one did not disappoint! Once I started to read, I was there, completely absorbed in the story. Her characters come alive and I am transported back to that time. Loved the story of 2 people who see themselves as different finding each other. Captivating story that will keep the reader asking for more.
