With 139 days left to live and a wedding and baby deliverance squeezed into that count, Sloan Jordan has got her hands plenty full! To find her friend and thwart the evil plans in motion, she must embrace a new set of skills to help her defeat the demons threatening her and the ones she loves. Lies and secrets unravel, poisoning her trust in the very people meant to protect her and her unborn child. Past friends and foes emerge, answers uncover but more questions surface. At the end of the day, there's one man who's intentions may not be pure as he's advertised. And if that's the case, Sloan's got more problems than just planning a wedding, warding off pregnancy poundage, keeping a platonic relationship with former love-interest Nathan McNamara, and dissuading her best friend from pining after her fiancé's father. (I was given this Advance Reader Copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review. Plus, spoiler-free.) Sloan's belly bump isn't the only thing that's growing; prepare to stifle bursts of laughter in your cubicles because Elicia Hyder is a comedic genius! Wit is smuggled in intense situations, woven throughout Sloan's inner monolog, and fired between character dialogue. I'd say this is the funniest book of the series, even trumping The Siren! (And that was hilarious—hell, all of eL's books are bound to make you giggle.) New characters were introduced, and I had no issue distinguishing them from the existing players. My favorite addition was Reuel, Sloan's personal bodyguard, who's got the appetite of a panda, the frame of a bodybuilder, and the fortitude of a warrior, which he kinda is, lol. Down the road, the story picks up three other characters that entertain the audience with their stark personality differences. One's a scared but comedic relief Angel of Prophet that's running from a past mistake; another is a sharp-edged mother with a heavy Brooklyn accent who's only concern is watching over her daughter, and the last is a take-no-prisoners, nerves of steel "brunette Barbie doll in tactical gear" who's Warren's ex-fling and Sloan's new Shannon Green. Humor is the strongest suit of The Taken, but perhaps at the cost of clarity within revelation of secrets and unfolding of some events. I had to read over the action scenes a couple of times to understand who did what and what was said. They felt a little rushed in relation to the pace of the book. There were also some possible plot holes that I stumbled across with in-depth analysis of the ARC. Sometimes, the story felt a little jumpy and there were some confusing bits, only to make conclusive at the end or near that. But overall, the story was good and answered some questions left from the previous volumes while leaving you with enough line to want more. OH! Once again you have taken me away in your writing... I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next book. The ending was AWSOME......

I admittedly have an extremely short attention span, if the first few pages of a book can't grasp my attention, I never finish them. Not only has Elicia caught my attention with this series, but kept it! I am excited to see what happens next!
