Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Written with input from director Rian Johnson, this official adaptation of Star Wars: The Last Jedi expands on the film to include scenes from alternate versions of the script and other additional content.

From the ashes of the Empire has arisen another threat to the galaxy’s freedom: the ruthless First Order. Fortunately, new heroes have emerged to take up arms—and perhaps lay down their lives—for the cause. Rey, the orphan strong in the Force; Finn, the ex-stormtrooper who stands against his former masters; and Poe Dameron, the fearless X-wing pilot, have been drawn together to fight side-by-side with General Leia Organa and the Resistance. But the First Order’s Supreme Leader Snoke and his merciless enforcer Kylo Ren are adversaries with superior numbers and devastating firepower at their command. Against this enemy, the champions of light may finally be facing their extinction. Their only hope rests with a lost legend: Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

Where the action of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended, Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins, as the battle between light and dark climbs to astonishing new heights.

Reviews

  • Expanded, but still rushed

I love the fact that scenes were added to this novel which weren’t in the film. I just wish some of the scenes translated from screenplay to novel didn’t feel so rushed. Certain sequences which I think could have benefitted from more lavish description or more fleshing-out are all but glossed over. Other than that, this is a great book. I loved the movie, and thus loved the book. Writing this novelization had to be an unenviable task, what with being hamstrung by either not knowing the next part of the story, not wanting to give too much away about the next part of the story, or both. Given these restrictions, I think an admirable job was done.

Beautifully written. Much more interesting than any Star Wars novel I’ve read! I love the way the plot connects everything, leaving you with that “Ooh” moment at the end of the book when everything starts making sense.
  • No valuable information to add to the movie

This book is well written, but basically a recount of the movie. No further background information about Snoke or any of the other questions left by the movie are answered. I am a long time Star Wars fan (to the point that my daughter’s middle name is Leia) and in truth this story line (Ryan Johnson’s fault, not thus author) let me down. So badly I did not even go see Solo and I am waiting for it to be released for download.

Jason Fry does an excellent job of translating George Lucas’s ideas into entertaining and believeable literature. I like his style!

Loved the experience of learning what these amazing characters are thinking and feeling. I cried several times and it made me appreciate the film even more.

How can people review this as being horrible before it is released! Makes me laugh! I love the anticipation of wondering what the thoughts will be and the words left unsaid by the characters that is to come! Hurry up March 6th! Hope there are some warm and loving thoughts to be written surrounding the “you’re not alone” scene! Movie was fantastic, and books are always better! CANNOT WAIT!!
