Description

NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • A hilarious novel of social and political intrigue, set against the glittering backdrop of Florida’s gold coast, from the author of Skinny Dip and Razor Girl

“If you could use some wild escapism right now, Hiaasen is your guy.” —The New York Times

WITH A NEW EPILOGUE

At the height of Palm Beach’s charity ball season, Kiki Pew Fitzsimmons, a prominent member of geriatric high society, suddenly vanishes during a swank gala. Kiki Pew was a founding member of the Potussies, a group of women dedicated to supporting the President, who spends half the year at the “Winter White House” just down the road. Meanwhile, Angie Armstrong, wildlife wrangler extraordinaire, is called to the island to deal with a monster-sized Burmese python that has taken residency in a tree. But the President is focused on the disappearance of Kiki Pew. Never one to miss an opportunity to play to his base, he immediately declares her a victim of rampaging immigrant hordes. This, it turns out, is far from the truth, which now lies in the middle of the road, where a bizarre discovery brings the First Lady’s motorcade to a grinding halt. Irreverent, ingenious, and uproariously entertaining, Squeeze Me perfectly captures the absurdity of our times.

Normally very entertaining reads, this one from Hiassen is fraught with efforts to display his Trump Derangement Syndrome at every opportunity to the point it seriously detracts from being able to enjoy the book. Also, early on a significant amount of firearms ignorance is displayed when he says Angie checked her Glock “to be sure the safety was on”. A minimum of research would show that Glocks have no external safety to be “on” or “off”. The safety is in the trigger mechanism and only “off” when the trigger is depressed by the user. Not his best work at all.

A little heavy on the Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Carl’s pen skewers south Floridians often hilariously. I have enjoyed some of his previous novels very much. But this one goes so far beyond satire and ‘fun-poking’ at Donald Trump that it becomes tough to plow through. Obviously Carl’s sympathy’s are with liberals but his previous efforts have been equal opportunity… no one has been safe. Had I known this one is more of a screed, I would have given it a pass.

Best suited to the legion of the former Presidents haters. Lazy portrayal of half truths represented as facts about our former President.. A lazy and un researched effort resorting in Mr.Hiaasen’s worst effort to date. Do yourself a favor and reread Bad Monkey rather than spend $ on this trash!

Too bad Mr. Hiaasen had to go there. Completely unnecessary to put his political feelings of a sitting President in his writings.

I loved this one. The only part that was sad was that so many pythons get killed. Hiaasen nails it with his portrayal of humanity, political satire, and the plights we have wrecked on our natural world.
  • Insightful tongue in cheek humor

I am aurprised to realize it may have been 20 years since I last read any of his books. His humor is as biting as ever. I recalll he said he gets the ideas for his books from newsers from Miami. That sees very believable. The return of Skink and the presence of giant pythons adds a lot of Florida to the story. The protagonist Angela is certainly an endearing creation.

Bought book after reading the one star review. I’d give it 10 stars! Loved the characters. Even kinda feel for the real Mockingbird. And what a wonderful story line. Highly recommend.
