A intriguing tale of a Scottish lass living in the immigrant slums of Boston who accepts a marriage proposal from a man in San Francisco who she has never met.

I couldn’t put this book down! And I loved so many of the characters. And I felt like I knew them ! And I liked the understanding of the earthquake in San Francisco.

I loved this book. It grabs your interest immediately and keeps you guessing through to the end. A must read!

This was a good story that kept me interested and has a strong protagonist with a past you want to find out more about. Add to it excellent descriptions of San Francisco after the Great Earthquake, and the tale gets more interesting, with evil hiding in plain sight.

A hauntingly beautiful story held together by the delicate secrets of each character. I could hardly stop reading.
