Description

*NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER*

Gregg Hurwitz's New York Times bestselling series returns when Orphan X faces his most challenging mission ever in Dark Horse.

Evan Smoak is a man with many identities and a challenging past. As Orphan X, he was a government assassin for the off-the-books Orphan Program. After he broke with the Program, he adopted a new name and a new mission--The Nowhere Man, helping the most desperate in their times of trouble. Having just survived an attack on his life and the complete devastation of his base of operations, as well as his complicated (and deepening) relationship with his neighbor Mia Hall, Evan isn't interested in taking on a new mission. But one finds him anyway.

Aragon Urrea is a kingpin of a major drug-dealing operation in South Texas. He's also the patron of the local area--supplying employment in legitimate operations, providing help to the helpless, rough justice to the downtrodden, and a future to a people normally with little hope. He's complicated--a not completely good man, who does bad things for often good reasons. However, for all his money and power, he is helpless when one of the most vicious cartels kidnaps his innocent eighteen year old daughter, spiriting her away into the armored complex that is their headquarters in Mexico. With no other way to rescue his daughter, he turns to The Nowhere Man.

Now not only must Evan figure out how to get into the impregnable fortress of a heavily armed, deeply paranoid cartel leader, but he must decide if he should help a very bad man--no matter how just the cause.

Whenever I see a new Orphan X book I get excited and this installment did not disappoint. Now we are seeing a softer side of X and I like it very much. Can’t wait for the next one.

Evan Smoak (GH) did not disappoint. Another roller coaster read. Really liked GH’s writing peeling back a layer at a time Evan’s character. The emotional strain of being human was displayed artfully while still pursing completion of the mission. Looking forward to Evan’s new adventure while avoiding the wrath of the US President.
  • Evan is developing

I really enjoyed this addition to the series. Evan is growing and it is interesting to see. I felt that it would have been nice to have an ending that gave you a positive outcome in his personal life but I guess that was on purpose to continue the series.
  • Possibly the best one so far…

I’ve been an Evan fan from the first book and look forward to each new one. I try not to expect too much but hope Gregg continues to keep up the excellent work. Dark Horse is my new number one.

While I’ve read most of the Orphan X books, this one fell far short of his best. The book seemed excessively long and rambling. I’d read one of his others if you’re looking for a good thriller.
  • By far his best one yet

I’ve love all of novels in the Orphan X series, but this one is a masterpiece. It’s funny, heart wrenching, joyous, sad, and has loads of amazing actions and thrills.
  • Excellent with Extra Depth

Really enjoying the journey Evan is making personally. And, watching him embrace his emotional intelligence from within his Heart rather than his head. And, O do truly hope there are Evans taking out Human Evil everywhere.
