Description

What’s worse than a gorgeous one-night stand who doesn’t remember you? Having to pretend to be his wife. For work.

The Rogues Division is a top-secret, highly-classified, “I’d tell you but I’d have to kill you” kind of organization. The kind of organization the government pretends not to love having at its disposal.

And we  just got our newest recruit…Lachlan King, the sexy billionaire playboy who seduced me into one night of wild, soul-shattering, sex.

When I slipped out of his bed three months ago, I never expected to see him again. My future is set. I’m going to be a Rogues field agent. And field agents don’t date. Not to mention it’s forbidden to date each other. I’m relieved when he also pretends not to know me, so we can avoid any office awkwardness--until I realize he isn’t pretending.

Even worse luck, I’m assigned to play his lover in the field.

Okay, okay, deep breath. This mission will be easy. All I need to do is pretend to be madly  in love with him and make sure neither of us die. Oh and remember this isn’t real. I’ve got to remember that. I cannot let this playboy seduce me again no matter what my belly does when he looks at me like I’m his.

Lachlan “the King,” however, has thrown himself into our undercover assignment a little too whole heartedly. He’s hell bent and determined on being as convincing as possible.

But there’s no way I’m letting him fake-husband me back into bed. I won’t fall for him this time. I won’t. Will I?

The King picks up where the novella The Heir left of. We are now meeting Saffron Abott and Lachlan King in the world of Rouges. Let the intrigue begin! As with The Heir, The King is action pack and full of the twists and turns that are the hallmark of a Nana Malone book. While I love a good romance novel, I have to say, the style of Ms. Malone is that of a hybrid of suspense and romance. I love it! The King also revisits characters from some of Nana Malone’s other universes in other book series (note, the other series are necessary in order to read The King, but they are great read and just as fun to read). The King advances the story of Saffron and Lachlan, but also develops the story of Saffron and the village around her. Oh and there are explosions. The best part is that while the story leaves off with a bang, the story of Saffron and Lachlan is taken care of, one way or another. I am curious about the direction the rest of the Rouge series goes. There have been some great characters introduced including Tabatha, Gabe, and Saint. I am excited for the next book in the series.
  • Intense connection!

Oh, boy, did Nana Malone write main characters with an all-encompassing connection, crazy chemistry, and so much tension in The King!! The kicker: there is no fraternizing at work! Saffron Abott and Lachlan King’s greeting of each again after three months is entertaining, I was not expecting that type of physical interaction. Then she finds out he does not remember her from their extraordinary night together. However, I love that her scent plays a big role in his intense link to her, especially towards the end. The plot twists are great in book one of the Gentlemen Rogues series! All Saffron wants is to become a field agent and take down a specific killer, but she does not get exactly what she wanted. Lachlan wants to finish the year long training demanded by his family, but learns more about his ties and himself. Their mission was to surveil one target, but then again, you cannot trust anyone. What I love the most were the grand gestures! Lock messes up big time, and he does something even the highly skilled and intelligent Saff could not do. Saff’s brother, Gabe, made high-handed decisions, but he also did not want her to be lonely. Saff dresses up to make her own gesture, but we get Lock’s sweet declaration instead. This book is a tear-jerker! If you enjoy reading about derriere kicking women, billionaire men getting a wake up call, funny banter, boiling hot spicy scenes, dirty talk and thoughts, and an undeniable pull towards someone, then you’ll love this book! Thank you to Valentine PR and Nana Malone for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Oh, how I love Saff and King! They are both fierce, stubborn, and so good together! Yes, they both mess up despite how smart and savvy they are, but the romance is just all the swoon! Can’t wait for the next Rogue, because yeah…

Lachlan & Saffron are burning the pages again in the 2nd book in the trilogy. I love a good tug of war and Saff gives as good as she gets. A good summer read from Nana Malone. Looking forward to Book 3!

Firstly, I would like to say that it isn’t necessary to read the prequel The Heir first but I would definitely recommend it. It sets up Saff and Lachlan’s story. I liked the two in The Heir but after reading the King I love them even more. The two have some serious chemistry. You could feel their emotions coming off the pages. Saffron is a fantastic heroine. I love her intelligence and strength. Lachlan really grew into a great guy with a lot of heart. I especially loved the ending scene between them. It was really touching and thoughtful. Can’t wait for the next book!
