War and Remembrance

From the first chapter of the first volume to the final word volume two, this is a historical story that captures your heart your mind and your imagination.

II just re-read this 2 book series after 30 years and it was great then and is better now. I am so disappointed that the book came to and end! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! The enjoyment was greatly enhanced by the ability to instantly reach out to the internet thru the I-pad and look up additional information about battles, ships, people and finally to look at maps and pictures of the events being described in the book.

I started with the first book, The Winds Of War and got hooked. It was obvious that I had to read War and Remembrance as well. What a wonderful story that just keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat. I wish there were another novel that talked about the lives of the characters after the war. I would recommend this book to all that would listen!

A perfect work of literature.

This completely engaging historical novel follows the lives of some fictitious and some real characters. It has been a healthy 30 years since I read it and am about to read it again. Following this, I read Herman Wouk's first book "The Caine Mutiny" and I was then addicted to anything Wouk wrote. (The only book I did not care for was "Don't Stop the Carnival" which I guessed he may have been in need of some money when he wrote it.) Back to "Winds of War" if you don't fall in love with Pug Henry (in the Navy) and his family, you just don't have the capacity to love (or at least love reading). I need to read again ASAP as I have never found another author I enjoy so much nor characters I would love to live with (few exceptions). BUY THIS, READ IT AND ENJOY EVERY WORD OF IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!

I especially liked reading this book on the iPad. It was much lighter than the original hardback books. I love the ability to look up words in the dictionary as well as people, places and events online. This contributed to my understanding and enjoyment of this book. There were numerous typos throughout the book, but none so bad that they posed a significant distraction.

Herman Wouk's "War and Remembrance" is a great book, a classic. But whoever scanned it into iBook format did a lousy job. There are numerous pink encoding error messages. Typos - no doubt a result of poor scanning - dot the manuscript. For example, the title of Chapter 14 reads "Zrandator'o aoreworb." Where is quality control?
