Description

The Duke of Jervaulx was brilliant and dangerous. Considered dissolute, reckless, and extravagant, he was transparently referred to as the ′D of J′ in scandal sheets, where he and his various exploits featured with frequency. But sometimes the most womanising rake can be irresistible, and even his most casual attentions fascinated the sheltered Maddy Timms, quiet daughter of a simple mathematician.

  • Probably the best romance novel I have ever read

The only flaw, if you can call it that, is that it is bit long. Besides that it has everything you could hope for. Jane Eyre is my favorite novel and I loved the similar themes. I never felt easy, which I find incredible. I felt precisely as MaddyGirl and the D of J did for most of the novel. It is wonderful when a writer can do that. It made the ending that much more special. And, I appreciate that this wasn’t a fluffy kind of romance like I am used to reading. It hurt my soul at times and warmed it too. This depth of feeling is not usually something I experience with romance novels. The little details were spectacular as well. They made my heart ache. Ugh! It truly was a wonderful story.

I had high hopes for this book, started out well enough in the beginning; really liked the hero and the progress he made unfortunately the girl totally ruined it for me, one of the most thick headed, timid, selfish and hypocritical heroines ever. Didn't take a stand or asserted herself at all. So oblivious to everything. I found myself just flipping through the last 60 or so pages because I couldn't read a scene with her without rolling my eyes.
  • Completely surprising and eloquently written

Beautiful love story. Dragged a bit, but worth it in the end. One of my new favorites.
  • Romance at its best

This was such a great read and one that I continue to read over and over again! I know what's going to happen but I still cry a little every time. If you love the power of love, this is a book you will enjoy.

I found myself loving every twist and turn of the story. Diffidently a surprising twist from suction to salvation. Like any reader after a long good read I start to look back on the story. I find myself wishing that Maddy (our main girl in this story) was more like the person she found herself to be at the end way back in the middle of the book. I think this book could have easily been a mystery novel with so many suspect (and one true obvious suspect) to poising the hero. You'll know what I mean once you read the book. But you need to know a head of time it was not poisoning but a stroke. I still find my self a need for revenge on the "Ape". With this refreshing read I'm off to purchase another book by Kinsale!
