Description

"C.S. Lewis is the ideal persuader for the half-convinced, for the good man who would like to be a Christian but finds his intellect getting in the way." — Anthony Burgess, New York Times Book Review

Our moral consciousness and moral judgements are proof to the human race that a moral being exists—God.

Mere Christianity explores the core beliefs of Christianity by providing an unequaled opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear a powerful, rational case for the Christian faith. A brilliant collection, Mere Christianity remains strikingly fresh for the modern reader and at the same time confirms C. S. Lewis’s reputation as one of the leading writer and thinkers of our age.

The book brings together Lewis’ legendary broadcast talks during World War II. Lewis discusses that everyone is curious about: right and wrong, human nature, morality, marriage, sins, forgiveness, faith, hope, generosity, and kindness.

This book was not merely good but outstanding to read. There were a lot of subjects that use to puzzle me but Lewis breaks it down very well. It helped answer a lot my questions and worries of my Faith. I would highly recommend this book and take notes as well.

Mere Christianity Book Review Overall reading Mere Christianity makes you take a step back and think about your life and more precisely what it means to be a Christian. C.S. Lewis takes us through 4 books, each with a Christian theme that intrigues the reader with philosophical views entertaining views from other religions and beliefs also. Having been an atheist converted to a Christian, C.S. Lewis does a very good job of giving examples of doubts we may have as people about the Bible, Jesus’s teachings, or what god is by answering them in his own unique way that applies to people. The way he explained what he meant resembled how Jesus taught in parables. After talking in considerably hard to understand vocabulary, he would come back with an explanation almost like a parable. He took the task of giving his explanation of how to live as a Christian and for me it was a very eye opening and intelligent book to read. The first subject C.S. Writes about addresses the human nature. He talks about a universal moral law that everyone essentially knows, but it their own decision whether to follow it or not. Doing good deeds or acting evil is not instinctive, but rather a choice we choose to make. C.S. Then goes on to explain the moral law and the many different beliefs or doubts of how and why it is apart of our human nature, eventually coming to a conclusion, his own belief, that there must be a god. After explaining the background of human nature and the roots of our actions, he talks about the idea of what God is. C.S. Goes into more detail about different religions and atheism, eventually telling his reasons why he chose to be a Christian. Once he explains why he chose to be a Christian, the next 2 books talk about how to live like a Christian. Giving the principle values a Christian should live by and how to strengthen your relationship with God by living like Jesus, if you are a Christian or curious about the religion I would definitely recommend reading this book.
