From the New York Times bestselling author, here is the first novel in the explosive Power of the Dog series—an action-filled look at the drug trade that takes you deep inside a world riddled with corruption, betrayal, and bloody revenge.

Book One of the Power of the Dog Series

Set about ten years prior to The Cartel, this gritty novel introduces a brilliant cast of characters. Art Keller is an obsessive DEA agent. The Barrera brothers are heirs to a drug empire. Nora Hayden is a jaded teenager who becomes a high-class hooker. Father Parada is a powerful and incorruptible Catholic priest. Callan is an Irish kid from Hell’s kitchen who grows up to be a merciless hit man. And they are all trapped in the world of the Mexican drug Federación. From the streets of New York City to Mexico City and Tijuana to the jungles of Central America, this is the war on drugs like you’ve never seen it.

Don Winslow has done it again! Excellent character development and the story moves at a fast pace. I stayed up late many nights because I couldn’t put this book down! This book is worth your time and money!

If 50% was cut out, it would be pretty good. The core story is well done, and the author clearly knows how to write, but the long segues to nowhere are simply tedious, and in large parts read more like political manifestos. I simply lost interest and gave up at around the 75% mark.
  • Best long story ever

This story was not what was e le Ted, it was, however, do much better. A distinctively enduring tale, and a most interesting, and at times thrilling, story. The mafia world, the drug wars world, the Mexican drug lords, the church, and the cops are rolled up into one fantastic story. Read it, all, you will enjoy the ride.

Very believable and accurate. An astounding story that I’ve now read twice. And I never read books twice.

Excellent read on every page. This is my first of Winslow, but not my last! He explores the wasted billions on a drug war that can’t be won!
