Description

INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER • Inspector Harry Hole tracks a Norwegian serial killer in this “fiendishly complex and terrifically entertaining” (The New York Times Book Review) installment of the New York Times bestselling series.

"Maddeningly addictive.” —Vanity Fair

One night, after the first snowfall of the year, a boy named Jonas wakes up and discovers that his mother has disappeared. Only one trace of her remains: a pink scarf, his Christmas gift to her, now worn by the snowman that inexplicably appeared in their yard earlier that day. Inspector Harry Hole suspects a link between the missing woman and a suspicious letter he’s received. The case deepens when a pattern emerges: over the past decade, eleven women have vanished—all on the day of the first snow. But this is a killer who makes his own rules ... and he’ll break his pattern just to keep the game interesting, as he draws Harry ever closer into his twisted web. With brilliantly realized characters and hair-raising suspense, international bestselling author Jo Nesbø presents his most chilling case yet—one that will test Harry Hole to the very limits of his sanity.

  • Well Developed.

The plot is engaging and entertaining. The thing that really impressed me was the way the author subtly introduced fine details into the plot that he would call back to 20 chapters and 250 pages later. The story was laid out in detail and all plot points were nicely resolved in the end. I recommend this book.

Outstanding book! I loved the detective Harry Hole, and am now reading another book by this author. Harry seems to be a popular name (Dirty Harry, Harry Bosch) for detectives who have to fight with politically correct but incompetent bureaucratic establishment types. Loved Rakel and Oleg, and hope they will be part of Harry's life again! I'm looking forward to the release of this author's 2017 book and can't wait to read another Harry Hole thriller!

This is the best harry hole novel so far, it is fast paced, still has the typical twists and turns, but it doesn't slow down like some of the previous ones have done. It was pretty clear where this was going to go in the end rather early on, but not who was going to be the bad guy doing it..
  • Great until snowman becomes too predictable

Worthy successor of Agatha until it becomes too predictable who Snowman is, after that the thrill is gone, and feels like words written to fill pages and explain Snowman's nature. Ending is too Hollywood like.
  • Heart Pounding

All of Nesbo's books are a piece of mastery, but this is the pinnacle. Although , the identity of the Snowman was predictable, it was still a page turner till the very end with my heart in my throat.
  • A page turner

Couldn't put it down, but after a while the violence got to me. Not as well written as Steiger Larsen's trilogy, but so fast paced that the lack of artfulness isn't missed. That sounds odd, I know, but like in the best shoot 'em up movies, where the nonstop action masks the fact that the story is lame, the gore and pace cover the flaws here, too.

Some of the sex scenes were really random, but the plot was fascinatingly developed, with just the right amount of confusion and twists to keep you turning the page! This is a must-have.
