Description

True love takes a twisted turn in the second book of this modern gothic romance trilogy that channels the dark brilliance of Edgar Allan Poe.

While Varen remains a prisoner in a perilous dream world where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life, Isobel travels to Baltimore to confront the dark figure known throughout the world as the Poe Toaster. This man, the same man who once appeared to Isobel in her dreams and abandoned her in Varen’s nightmare world, holds the key to saving Varen.

But when Isobel discovers a way to return to this dream world, she finds herself swept up in a realm that not only holds remnants of Edgar Allan Poe’s presence, but one that has taken on the characteristics of Varen’s innermost self. It is a dark world of fear, terror, and anger.

When Isobel once more encounters Varen, she finds him changed. And now Isobel must face a new adversary—one who also happens to be her greatest love.

___________________________ Positives: (Spoilers) A lot of emotions and thoughts are going through my head right now because of the ending. I will try my best not to spoil anything, but just in case I put (spoilers). Everything that’s said and every scene, even if it’s boring, has meaning to the ending. You really need to push through because the ending is really what this book is all about. Another cliff hanger OF COURSE! Because my mind will never be the same unless I get the next book 😩 THATS how good and emotional the ending is. Isobel, I feel for you girl. This 16/17 year old girl is going through so much just to get squished into a pulp. I feel so bad for her. She also day dreams a lot, anyone realize that? I keep thinking there has to be something special about her and I’m predicting thats what the third book will have a explanation for (haven’t reed the 3rd yet). Negatives: Okay, so same with my review from the first book, theres just too much detail. I skipped paragraphs/pages because there was to much not needed information. Like do we really need to know, how a window reminded you of Christmas from two years ago? (That was just a dramatic example it wasn’t in the book). Also, there were times where I contemplated skipping everything and going to the end because it got boring. But, if you read my “Positives” part you’ll know you shouldn’t do that. That why I took away a star because it was boring at parts even if they ended up being important. ___________________________ Rates 1-5 Plot: 4 Characters: 4 Ending: 4 Beginning: 5 Details: 3 (To much) Story overall how it’s told: 3 Overall rating: 4 ___________________________ Yes/no/maybe Would I recommend: yes (the whole series YES) Would I re-read: no (not this book) Would I read more books by author: YES Would I read more books like this: YES ___________________________

I have been dying for this second book to come out and when it finally did I bought it right away. But I got really busy with moving (which actually never happened). But I finally read it within these last few days and found myself quite disappointed. 3/4 of the story is all about getting to the dream world. Then when she finally gets there not much happens at all and then the end of the book. I was hoping for a resolve considering how long the book dragged on about getting there. I am hoping that the third book will be way better. But I have to say that the first is by far the best thus far.

I thought this book would have been a little more interesting. To be quite honest, nothing exciting really happened, unlike in Nevermore. The first book left high expectations which this, in my opinion, did not succeed like I'd hoped it would. The ending could've been better too, with all do respect.

Okay, okay. I know that some of you reading the reviews are making wide eyes at my small rating of three stars. I have a reason, just hear me out. The series as a whole gets a five plus star rating. The first book, Nevermore, gets a solid five stars in my book. As one of the very first readers of this series (I first read it over the Internet before it was released publicly in book form) and fell head over heels for it. Due to this, I have been waiting fortis book for a very long time. I've had it preordered for several months now. I gave this book three stars as a stand alone. As a part of the series, it's fabulous, but as a novel, the plot line isn't nearly as sweeping and captivating as the first. Granted, Creagh had a big act to follow, and didn't face plant this. She actually did better than most writers could ever hope of. Unfortunately, I was anticipating an epic of amazing proportions with a final sense of resolution at the end. Wrong. The plot went right for what we had all expected: Isobel's confrontation with the Poe toaster. Honestly, I was expecting the plot to be mostly in the dream world, after Isobel's meeting with the ominous Reynolds. In fact, I was wrong. The build up to that was the main meat of the book, and honestly it had my nerves on a wire. Granted, I loved Gwen in this book. Her quick and clever Inez definitely kept the action alive in the build up. Her spunk kept me hanging on and Isobel's longing kept my hoping. Awesome duo. Then the end came. Not a complete shocker. We all saw it coming, but it was still traumatizing. I am totally against spoiler alerts and firmly believe you should read it yourself if you want to find out. If you are just browsing and have never read this series, start at Nevermore. Trust me, you'll be hooked. This is an amazing series and Kelly Creagh is quite frankly one of the best young adult authors out there. This series not only transforms the characters, but also the readers. I wouldn't recommend and series more. Start with Nevermore and follow it up with this. Then plan on getting the third book (no way this series is ending now). You can thank me later.

I cannot wait for this book to come out! It is killing me, having to wait so long! It's been almost a month already! I really do think this will be a great book. I fell in love with the first one. I even have favorite moments in that book. I really hope this one is just as amazing and isn't one of those super horrible books compared to the first book. I am so excited!!!!!
