Description

1999, on the threshold of a new millennium, the novelist Daniel Langham lives a reclusive life on an idyllic Greek island, hiding away from humanity and the events of the past. All that changes, however, when he meets artist Caroline Platt and finds himself falling in love. But what is his secret, and what are the horrors that haunt him?
1935. Writers Jonathon Langham and Edward Vaughan are summoned from London by their editor friend Jasper Carnegie to help investigate strange goings on in Hopton Wood. What they discover there - no less than a strange creature from another world - will change their lives forever. What they become, and their link to the novelist of the future, is the subject of Eric Brown's most ambitious novel to date. Almost ten years in the writing, The Kings of Eternity is a novel of vast scope and depth, full of the staple tropes of the genre and yet imbued with humanity and characters you'll come to love.

Best sci-fi book I have read in years. Sci-fi yes but suitable for my wife's book club with its tale of human relationships. Highly recommend.

What an incredible find for me! My first Eric Brown novel and it delivers! I'm a lifelong sci-fi fan, love Wells, Heinlein and Asimov (apologies for misspellings), and Brown is among those legends now for me. You too will become a fan, I guarantee it!

Having a wide period of time as such the sequences were well put together and flawlessly merged. It's like a space version of Harry potter. Excellent

Buy this book! Of the hundreds of "scifi" books I have read in my fifty years this book is easily in the top ten. Not truly a hard core science fiction read, more of a romp through space and time in a tweed jacket. I loved the book, I shall read the only remaining book I have not read by Mr Brown now and I shall recommend him heartily whenever the opportunity arises. As I said at the start; buy this book!

I am a die hard sci- fi fan. I have read, and loved such greats as Stephen Baxter, Gregory Benford, David Brin, Arthur C. Clarke, and Charles Sheffield. The worlds they have created have greatly enriched my life, (as well as entertained the hell out of me), but "Kings of Eternity" by Eric Brown has now attained a truly special place on the mantle of my favourites. I am by nature a hard sci-fi, space opera lover. This novel, however, has moved me like no science fiction I have ever read! Too often people hold the view of sci-fi as pure escapism, (a view, parradoxically, both acurate, yet often innane). This book both transports the reader to fantastical worlds and situations, yet, also, grounds the reader in a world of deep emotion matched by few authors. All I can say is, read this book. I sincerely doubt many will be dissapointed.
  • Fantastic Read!

Call me what you will, but I recently gave-up trying to read Bram Stoker's Dracula, which - after seven months - I found to be painfully slow. In contrast, Kings Of Eternity was recommended to me and I read it in one weekend. As much of a love story as it is Sci-Fi, the writing is part Ray Bradbury, part H. G. Wells, part Graham Greene. Fantastic plot, beautifully written.
