Highlights Version
The Birds of America by John James Audubon is one of the best known and most valuable natural history books ever published. The original double-elephant folio edition has 435 hand-coloured prints of engravings made from Audubon's original paintings.
The prints were originally issued in 87 sets of 5 between 1827 and 1838. Only 119 sets are known to exist today.
This resized digital edition of Audubon's masterpiece has been created by disbinding one of two original sets held at the Natural History Museum, London and photographing it using the latest digital technology.
This eBookTreasures facsimile edition contains additional text giving the plate dimensions in inches, the common and scientific names of the birds, and for every plate, an extract from Audubon's Ornithological Biography.
