When Reuben Golding, a young reporter on assignment, arrives at a secluded mansion on a bluff high above the Pacific, it’s at the behest of the home’s enigmatic female owner. She quickly seduces him, but their idyllic night is shattered by violence when the man is inexplicably attacked—bitten—by a beast he cannot see in the rural darkness. It will set in motion a terrifying yet seductive transformation that will propel Reuben into a mysterious new world and raise profound questions. Why has he been given the wolf gift? What is its true naturegood or evil? And are there others out there like him?

A remarkable story. You must read the two books to get the full impact. Delightful, hard to put down.

Enjoyed the vampire chronicles, and parts of this book I did really enjoy. But, there are some very slow bits and many times I found myself skimming the pages looking for the plot to advance. Characters are a bit fanciful.

Lacking any sort of a climax or real excitement.

The book was a slow starter. Midway through it became interesting and by the end you wanted the story of Margon to continue. I downloaded the next book right away.

Just like the vampire series Anne Rice changed the game on werewolves. Beautiful and amazing creatures. Great book.

If you are a dedicated AR fan, then perhaps this book will hold some appeal to you. If you are the kind who thought her best works were those in the vampire and Mayfair witches series, then this book will be a complete letdown. I personally believe her publisher promulgated this drivel only because she has a following. If a new writer were to have written The Wolf Gift, then s/he would still be searching for a publishing house. There's no plot, the characters are not well developed -and not likable. There's no character that is worth rooting for: everyone is uber wealthy (who in this economic climate wants to read a novel about the auspicious turn of events in the life of a trust fund baby?) and the few trials the protagonist undertakes are surmounted with ease and a Dickensonian happy ending. The good vs evil theme is forcibly inculcated into the material and is cliche. The science and technology Anne Rice adds into her story still doesn't give the tale a "modern" edge. Her main character's name is Reuben Golding, a title that conjures up 70 year-old accountants or your great aunt Ethel's hard of hearing husband; not some hot 23 year-old boy who drives a Porsche and shags three of the female characters in the book. Clearly AR is out of touch with the times, and her readers. Do yourself a service and save your time and money.
