Description

Winner of the Newbery Honor! The Revolutionary War comes alive in this contemporary classic for young adults. The War had no clear-cut loyalties--it divided families, friends and towns. Young Tim Meeker's 16-year-old brother goes off to fight with the Patriots while his father remains a reluctant British Loyalist in the Tory town of Redding, CT. Tim’s always looked up to his brother, who’s smart and brave. With the war soon raging, Tim knows he'll have to make a choice -- between the Revolutionaries and the Redcoats . . . and between his brother and his father. Over the course of the war Tim learns that life teaches some bitter lessons and does not guarantee clear answers. My Brother Sam Is Dead is a stirring, probing tale full of action and suspense, putting listeners right into the heart of the Revolutionary War.

It’s was a really good book, and I recommend it definitely. There’s a lot of really good information and it teaches a lot. There’s a sense of irony in it because of what happens throughout the book. I’m only giving the book four stars because even though the writing was good and detailed, it lacked emotion. The emotional impact wasn’t there for me personally.

I was asked to read this book over summer vacation and I did. I really enjoyed it but it was hard to tell who was who and what people were saying. Also at the end you could not tell what was happening and it was very sad when I finally found out what happened. Butt over all it was ok. Btw this book use language not for kids.

I had to read this book for school summer reading, and I was not to excited about it. I’m not into history and nonfiction and those types of genres, so when I saw the cover of the book, I was not to pumped. (Don’t judge a book by its cover ;)) I started reading it and it was actually pretty interesting. I feel like all the action and everything made you forget the whole book was based on War. Don’t listen to all the people who say this book is sooooo sad….it is sad, many people die, but that’s just life. Personally, I like sad stories. If books were all happy, it would be pretty unrealistic. Plus, if you’ve decided to read a book about war, you can expect death. One thing I was pretty annoyed by, though, is the title. “My Brother Sam is Dead” states the obvious….his brother Sam is going to die. The whole book is about how Sam fights etc, and they don’t talk about his death until like the last page, which creates so much tension. I also think that could be a good thing because it makes you excited for the end and you WANT to read. Overall, I think this book was very well written and definetely reccomend it! On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the best, I give it a 9.5!

This was a good book. It's educational and has many possible things from the revolutionary war. Though the Meeker family is a character it was a true sad ending for them. I would definitely recommend it. On a scale of 1-10 I'll rate it a 8.5
