In “The Advent of Divine Justice”, a book written as back as in 1938, Shoghi Effendi – a great scholar and Guardian of the Bahá’í Faith – expressed his concerns about a “world dimmed by the steadily dying-out light of religion, heaving with the explosive forces of a blind and triumphant nationalism; scorched with the fires of pitiless persecution, whether racial or religious; deluded by the false theories and doctrines that threaten to supplant the worship of God and the sanctification of His laws; enervated by a rampant and brutal materialism; disintegrating through the corrosive influence of moral and spiritual decadence ….”.
Even today, after an elapse of many eventful decades, there is hardly any change in this gloomy scenario. Generation after generation is passing through an age which is marked by its great scientific advancement, technical and intellectual empowerment, and yet the world is afflicted with many, many great problems of our time the root of which is to be found in nothing but our moral and spiritual depreciation.
