Description

The phenomenal fifth book in the Hunger Games series!
When you've been set up to lose everything you love, what is there left to fight for?

As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes.

Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

When Haymitch's name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He's torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who's nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he's been set up to fail. But there's something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.

Haymitches story is awesome. It explains the trauma and pain he had to go through, and I feel like as we read or watch the movies we hold a heart of resentment towards him, but this explain everything. Well written, been a second since I’ve read a first person written story, and just so detailed it fills out my imagination of the world even more. Catching us between Lucy and Katnisses hunger games, we come onto a time where the propaganda was half figured out, but still done in barbaric ways. Loved the book. Recommend it to everyone around me. An absolute ride of a book with deep heart felt moments.

Perfect way to tell the story of Haymitch! Tying to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and the original Hunger Games books. I didn’t want to set the book down

As always, Suzanne Collins paints a painful coming-of-age portrait of Panem’s captives, adding foundation and detail to everything you ever thought as minor from the original Hunger Games trilogy. As fans, I speak for all of us when I say we are simultaneously heartbroken and amazed reading towards the inevitable.

I absolutely loved the book! Suzanne has a way with weaving words together that completely enthralled me. I was sucked into the story immediately and I watched everything play out in my head as I read. I highly recommend this book. 🥹 Fair warning: Emotions will run high as you read the story. It’s heartbreaking.

I haven’t been interested in reading really since her last Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This book had me reading day and night finishing the entire book in two days with the full emotional spectrum I remember having the first time I read The Hunger Games. A worthwhile read for anyone that has the time. I am always happy to be back in the world of Panem and loved hearing Haymitchs story which had some unexpected surprises I never could have imagined!

but overall a spectacular read. only experienced the minor problem of shedding tears quite too often but it’s to be expected with this particular author. 10/10 recommend, as well as keepin some tissue nearby.
