Description

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Beautiful Disaster—soon to be a major motion picture!

When the world ends, can love survive?

For Scarlet, raising her two daughters alone means fighting for tomorrow is an everyday battle. Nathan has a wife, but can’t remember what it’s like to be in love; only his young daughter Zoe makes coming home worthwhile. Miranda’s biggest concern is whether her new VW Bug is big enough to carry her sister and their boyfriends on a weekend escape from college finals.

When reports of a widespread, deadly “outbreak” begin to surface, these ordinary people face extraordinary circumstances and suddenly their fates are intertwined. Recognizing they can’t outrun the danger, Scarlet, Nathan, and Miranda desperately seek shelter at the same secluded ranch, Red Hill. Emotions run high while old and new relationships are tested in the face of a terrifying enemy—an enemy who no longer remembers what it’s like to be human.

Set against the backdrop of a brilliantly realized apocalyptic world, love somehow finds a way to survive. But what happens when the one you’d die for becomes the one who could destroy you?

Red Hill grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go until its stunning conclusion. This is #1 New York Times bestselling author Jamie McGuire at her unforgettable best.

Story is told from Scarlet, Miranda, and Nathan's POV. Scarlet and Nathan have suffered a failed marriage and come together in a time of catastrophe. They lean on each other for comfort and support. This story makes me reminisce over scenes from The Walking Dead. It's like reading a web episode from The Walking Dead. Three separate groups are heading to the same city which is being blocked. Guards are shooting anybody trying to enter Anderson. The groups familiar with this territory are taking the back roads to get into Anderson. Scarlet is looking for her daughters, Nathan is trying to protect Zoe, and Miranda is trying to protect herself and her sister. All are headed to Red Hill. All are faced with surviving anyway they can. When catastrophe strikes it's hard to decide what to do. You see people needing help, but how do you help them when you are struggling yourself? Who do you trust? First chaos and panic to survive and then normalcy and routine set in. Trying to redefine the purpose of life and create a routine so as to not go insane. Who will survive? The story is well written. It's entertaining. The daily struggles in this new world are eventful.

I had never heard of Jamie McGuire before but after reading this book, I am an instant fan! I had no idea what to expect when I first started the book. I was quickly intrigued by the story line. I laughed, I cried and cheered on the characters. It's been awhile since I've had a book stay with me but this one did, long after I finished it. It was such a good book. You can't go wrong in choosing to read it!

This was an amazing book from 3 characters point of view. How they survived a new reality during crisis and their lives coming together. Was so suspenseful I couldn't put it down. I was very leary on the zombie idea, but it is not gory or graphic. Jaime McGuire is a remarkable author, and has the ability to create an "easy read" book.
