Description

Since Robin Hobb’s debut novel took the fantasy world by storm, the adventures of her beloved assassin FitzChivalry Farseer have spawned a sweeping epic that spans more than a dozen books—and counting. Discover the phenomenon from the beginning with this eBook bundle of the original trilogy:

ASSASSIN’S APPRENTICE
ROYAL ASSASSIN
ASSASSIN’S QUEST

Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman. He is treated as an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz’s blood runs the magic Skill—and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family.

As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.

Poorly written trilogy with poor hero’s. Definitely got tired of Fitz getting beat every other chapter. Tired of his whining. Next time don’t write the ptsd in. Looking to escape reality not embrace it. Hahaha

I must admit that I may have makes a mistake by reading all three books without a break. Too me, I sum them up as spans of tedious detail interrupted by brief bouts intrigue, passion and excitement. The author’s word paintings are exquisite but become repetitious through the three books. Again, because of reading the books one after the other, I grew tired of the lamentations of the main character, so much so that by book three I was looking forward to see if he dies not to mention looking forward to the end of the book. I enjoyed the secondary characters much more and would have liked to have read more about them. Had I read these books as they were published I most likely would have had a more favorable review. Even so, book thee is my least favorite overall where’s book 1 is the one that is best.

The story was great, the characters were memorable but I felt like the story never really hit you in the gut when it was supposed to. I enjoyed reading and at some times could not put the book down but after finishing the trilogy it left me wanting more.

Hobb deserves to be mentioned along the fantasy greats like Tolkien and LeGuin. The six duchies world is rich and intriguing, comparable to Earthsea if not as fleshed out in history as Muddle Earth perhaps. But where the trilogy shines is in the inner life of the characters, especially of the protagonist. Never before has fantasy told the cost of the tale for its hero in such length and deprh

This fantasy classic earns its stripes by capturing well the thrill of battle, the intrigue of court and the passion and grace of mobile strife. But what sets it apart is the interplay of a boy who can speak with his wolf, as we’ve all dreamed. It’s a long and wondrous journey whose only fault is an ending that doesn’t match its epic arc.
