Having returned to Paris from an extended holiday in Corsica, Lord Peter Wimsey receives news that his sister Mary's fiancé, Captain Denis Cathcart, has been found shot dead outside the Wimseys' shooting lodge at Riddlesdale in Yorkshire. His brother, Gerald, Duke of Denver, has been arrested for the murder. Cathcart was killed by a bullet from Denver's revolver, and Denver's only alibi is that he was out for a walk at the time Cathcart died. Lord Peter investigates!

I checked against a proper print copy, and this is certainly missing pages and pages worth of material. Not properly vetted at all. Wish I had checked the reviews before purchasing.

Not worth 99¢ because whole paragraphs are missing. It does seem like it was transcribed from audio, as another reviewer said. Sections are cut out and marked as [garbled section removed]. Do not purchase!
  • Horrible edition

I agree with a previous reviewer. This is an atrocious edition. Ms Sayers would rise up from her grave in righteous wrath. There are entire paragraphs missing. I suspect this is actually a pirated version, poorly transcribed from a damaged audiotape by someone with a hearing deficit who can't type, and never proofread. When the novel includes a translation of the vital French letter, how careless do you have to be to put "caw" instead of "coeur" not once but several times?

This is the worst edition of an e-book I have ever read. It's cheap and it shows. There are numerous omissions of text, replaced by (garbled) or some such indication that the process was poorly done. Read this book, just not this pitiful edition.
