Description

USA TODAY BESTSELLER • New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett steams up the ice all over again as the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team’s hottest bad boy gets his first taste of something good.

In a league full of troublemakers, Cold Fury defenseman Roman Sýkora stands out—at least when it comes to negative publicity. When he’s not chilling in the penalty box, the sizzling Czech skate demon is racking up tabloid headlines for his scandalous behavior with the ladies. But now Roman’s feeling the burn from management to clean up his act, or else. Luckily he’s got an enticing distraction: a fun-loving barista who plays the ukulele and brings out a side of Roman he didn’t know he had.

Lexi Robertson came to Raleigh, North Carolina, to finally meet her father, Brian Brannon, and her half sister, Gray, both of whom work in the Cold Fury’s front office. That’s where she first meets sexy, intimidating Roman—who’s really a big softie at heart. As one relationship takes off, another begins: Brian seems to be clicking with Lexi’s boss at the coffee shop. But when the friction between Roman and her new family heats up, Lexi wonders whether she’s a pawn in their game. Feeling hurt and foolish, Lexi’s ready to quit while she’s ahead. Trouble is, Roman’s not ready to quit on her.

I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books. ROMAN is the seventh book in the Cold Fury hockey series. Each book in the series is a standalone, although all the characters are interconnected. This is a charming story about Roman Sykora, the enforcer for the Cold Fury hockey team. He is the bad boy on the team and his antics keep getting him into trouble. Lexi Robertson and Roman meet at the Cold Fury offices. Lexi is there to introduce herself to her newfound father. She is surprised when her dying mother tells her she is the daughter of Brian, owner of the Cold Fury. Brian is surprised and excited to discover Lexi is his daughter. He is wonderful and welcomes Lexi into his family but his only daughter Gray, has a difficult time accepting Lexi. I enjoyed this sweet story and all the characters. Roman and Lexi make a great couple and bring out the best in each other. Roman has never been in a relationship before, so it takes him a while to figure out how to be a boyfriend. I love how he tries to be a good boyfriend, even though he makes a few mistakes along the way. He is dedicated to Lexi and treats her well and is always sweet to her. Lexi is a free spirit. She is carefree and fun and people naturally gravitate to her. She has a soothing effect on Roman. She teaches him how to enjoy life. This touching story pulled at my heartstrings.

Just can't say enough about Sawyer Bennett's writing and The Carolina Cold Fury series. Roman is a handsome, alpha, womanizer, trouble making, hockey player. All that changes when he meets the beautiful, free spirited Lizzie. Of course nothing is simple so these two must navigate his career and her new found family. But at heart it is a beautiful love story that packs some heat! I love the way Sawyer brings people, I mean characters from other Cold Fury books to this one and they have major roles in this story. You'll see and you will love it and this couple.

I am always looking for Sawyer's stories. This is one of her genres. She has a good way of bringing her story lines and characters together. She has hit another Cold Fury book! Roman Sykora is a defenseman for the Cold Fury hockey team. He is a rough player but then hockey is a rough game. Gray Brannon is their Manager and she is steaming because he won't play her way. He is steaming because he needs to play the way he needs to. Now add a surprise when Lexi turns up telling Brian he is her father. Major Spoiler. Is she or not? Will she go out when she meets Roman or follow Gray who says to stay away from him? Spoiler. I liked this story. I like hockey. There is graphic sex in this story. Check it out to see if you are ok to read it. Enjoy your reading! I volunteered to read and review this book.

OMG!!!! I loved this novel! Lexi is a carefree, fun-loving, ukulele-playing, young woman who wants nothing more than to get to know her family. Her mom, who passed away of cancer 10mths ago, informed Lexi that her dad was Brian Brannon--CEO of Cold Fury. Lexi's mom had kept this secret from her and her father. So Lexi studies the team, her dad, and Gray so she'll be familiar with them when she meets them. Lexi sets up a meeting with Brian to let him know and to offer a DNA test. Gray, having been an only child and the sole object of her dad's affection is less than welcoming. She's not willing to include Lexi into the family until the results are back. However, she is willing to get to know her possible sister. Along the way, Lexi catches the eye of Cold Fury's "bad boy". Roman wants Lexi, but senses she's "different" so he's willing to take things at her pace. Roman also doesn't get along with Gray. Gray's the GM of Cold Fury and Roman's latest bad boy ways have him in the doghouse with Gray. She uses her position and her "new" relationship with her sister to draw a wedge between Lexi and Roman. While trying to please everyone, Lexi comes to the realization that she's not happy without Roman, so she tells Gray she's going to date him anyway because she has to follow her heart. During Lexi's birthday celebration, Roman and Gray get into an argument where Gray threatens to trade him. Lexi overhears them tearing each other apart, so she leaves her party. She tells her dad to let Roman and Gray know they are not to contact her until they work it out....Later that night, Lexi is hit by a drunk driver. Gray calls Roman to let him know about the wreck. When he arrives at the hospital, he's afraid he may never be able to make it right. Can he and Gray set aside their differences to make Lexi happy? I loved how quirky and funny Lexi was. I liked how Roman saw Lexi for who she really was. I loved that Roman didn't try to take over Lexi's life, pay for things, etc. I truly appreciated Georgia and Lexi's mother-daughter relationship, even though they weren't related by blood. Then Georgia and Brian's relationship.....too funny! This novel ends with a HEA and no cliffhanger! I read a gifted copy of this novel and all opinions stated are my own.

I've been waiting for this book forever! As much as I love this series, Roman was definitely not my favorite.....Zack still holds that place with Max as a close 2nd. It's still an engaging story and I loved Lexi! As the heroine, she was so honest and steady..........not prone to misunderstandings and with a very forgiving nature. This book was a bit different because not only did Ms Sawyer write about Lexi and Roman, it was also about Brian(Lexi's dad) and Georgia. This is a part of. the book I had a bit of a problem with.....due to Georgia's attitude. I get she is n independent free spirit but she was annoying. She kept saying the Brian was a stick in the mud and accused him of having a stick up his butt..........which was a huge disservice to Brian. He has never been portrayed as such..........he' loves Gray and his possible daughter Lexi unconditionally and alway gives the advice to give love a chance. This is not characteristic of someone who is not open to change and love. I also just found Georgia a bit too much in your face. Another part of the book I couldn't come to terms with is how Gray was portrayed. In Ryker, she is portrayed as a brilliant GM, fair, steady with a big heart. In this book she is portrayed as a hot emotional mess, petulant, and vindictive. Part of the reason being is that she is pregnant. Yes , hormones do run a bit rampant during pregnancy BUT a total personality change does not happen. A lot of pregnant women work through their pregnancy making important decisions and taking care of their families without becoming a hormonal mess. Overall though the romance between Lexie and Roman was very sweet.....she was very patient with him and his issues. I felt for Roman and his sterile upbringing........one could see how hard it was for him to connect to people when he never had that growing up.

I have to be honest. It took me most of the book to decide if I liked Roman or not. I loved Lexi from the beginning and I saw glimpses of a guy I could like in Roman, but I didn't fall until almost the end. Then I was mush. I loved seeing the character progressions, and the unfolding of the story. The surprise POV was brilliant and the epilogue had me in a puddle of goo!
