Description

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

“Poised and chilling.” —Wall Street Journal

“No-one does suburban paranoia like Shari Lapena—this slowly unfurling nightmare will have you biting your nails until the end.” Ruth Ware

Another thrilling domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door and Not a Happy Family

Maybe you don't know your neighbors as well as you thought you did . . .

"This is a very difficult letter to write. I hope you will not hate us too much. . . My son broke into your home recently while you were out."

In a quiet, leafy suburb in upstate New York, a teenager has been sneaking into houses--and into the owners' computers as well--learning their secrets, and maybe sharing some of them, too.

Who is he, and what might he have uncovered? After two anonymous letters are received, whispers start to circulate, and suspicion mounts. And when a woman down the street is found murdered, the tension reaches the breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they're telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their own secrets?

In this neighborhood, it's not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide . . .

You never really know what people are capable of.

But nothing to write home about. And one rather annoying loose thread never explained. Also, the motive for the last murder doesn’t hold water.

The book started off slow, but it picks up and gets good. When I thought I figured who the killer was, here comes another person story introduced and I’m back at square one. When the killer was revealed, I didn’t expect it at all. Shari Lapena did a great job keeping each person secrets interesting and how all of them tied together.

I enjoyed this book. It maintained a good pace and kept me on my toes and engaged throughout. There were some plot points that left me hanging but overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

Many different eggs in the basket with this one. Shari does a great job of preventing confusion between characters. I read this over a span of time and that says a lot because I could have easily gotten confused with so many characters but never did. Lots of twists and turns. Often, I guess the killer with books like these but didn’t see this one coming! Its no “My Lovely Wife,” but its worth reading
