A Man Called Ove
meets The Good Place in Under the Whispering Door, a delightful queer love story from TJ Klune, author of the New York Times and USA Today bestseller The House in the Cerulean Sea.

Welcome to Charon's Crossing.
The tea is hot, the scones are fresh, and the dead are just passing through.

When a reaper comes to collect Wallace from his own funeral, Wallace begins to suspect he might be dead.

And when Hugo, the owner of a peculiar tea shop, promises to help him cross over, Wallace decides he’s definitely dead.

But even in death he’s not ready to abandon the life he barely lived, so when Wallace is given one week to cross over, he sets about living a lifetime in seven days.

Hilarious, haunting, and kind, Under the Whispering Door is an uplifting story about a life spent at the office and a death spent building a home.

I have no words that will do justice to this story. All I can say is you MUST not let another day go by before you read it.

This is lovely book about life, death, empathy, growth, and everything in between. It’s also a fun read. Grab your blanket, a cup of tea, and enjoy :)
  • So very boring

The premise sounded very cool and interesting but the protagonist is not likable and the entirety of the first half he just keeps trying to touch things. It’s inane. Also, the author tried to make the different characters sound different, but it did not work. I stopped reading at page 110. I really gave it a good shot.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone. The story flowed so well and left me feeling inspired to live life to the fullest. The characters were so vividly portrayed that I felt as though I knew them personally. I'm sure it would make a great movie or TV series. TJ did an amazing job with this book!

If dying means going to a tea shop in the middle of the woods then I am ready to go!
  • Relevant, sweet and compelling

A beautiful story about life and death and love. Made me smile and cry. I didn’t want it to end but I loved the ending.
  • Love the author

I love how the author writes as he feels. I can feel the details of the actions the character portrays. I must admit.. for someone who isn’t a fan, the author does turn me into a loyalist. This book tells of the struggle of the ferryman and the souls he ferries to the undead realm. That description was enough to intrigue me. Definitely a feel good story. P.s. spoiler: the deer in the picture is a god.
  • Amazing yet again

I don’t even have words to say how TJ Klume manages to tug on my heart strings. Between this and House on the Cerulean Sea I am now this author’s biggest fan. This book will make you fall in love with humanity and with the main characters - just as hard as they fall for each other.
  • Delightful
