The Veterinary Microscopic Anatomy Review series is a 21-volume set of interactive iBooks to allow a Q&A type review of microscopic anatomy structure and function. The histological sections are taken from multiple domestic species, including the canine, feline, bovine and equine.
In this unit of the series, the digestive tract is examined from the oral cavity (tongue, tooth) to the anal canal, including the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, and colon. A tap-through animation reviews the process of tooth development, and both a developing and a mature tooth are examined. Specie variations are reviewed in the esophagus and stomach (including ruminant and avian stomachs). The layers, structures and tissues of tubular organs are emphasized as differences in these allow identify the different segments of the tract, as well as the function(s) of each segment.
