Description

Ophelia Lang needs money, and she needs it bad. Her parent’s restaurant is going under, and ever since she lost her job teaching third grade elementary, scraping enough cash together to pay the bills has proven almost impossible. Her parents are on the brink of losing their home. The vultures are circling overhead. So when Ophelia is offered an interview for a well-paid private tutoring gig in New York, how can she possibly say no?

Ronan Fletcher is far from the overweight, balding businessman Ophelia expected him to be. He’s young, handsome, and wealthy beyond all reason. He’s also perhaps the coldest, rudest person she’s ever met, and has a mean streak in him a mile and a half wide. A hundred grand is a lot of money, however, and if tolerating his frosty temperament, erratic mood swings and whatever else he throws at her means she’ll get paid, then that is what Ophelia will do.

Her new boss is keeping secrets, though. Awful, terrible secrets.

The ghosts of Ronan Fletcher’s past are about to turn Ophelia’s future upside down, and she can’t even see it coming.

Hart is an automatic ‘need to read it’ author for me, and when I have the chance, I go back to her backlist and devour something while I wait for something new. This one tossed me on my head, flipped me around and then dragged me out to sea, in the best way possible. I wasn’t expecting anything that happened, leaving me open mouthed and shook by the whole experience. Ophelia was the kind of heroine I enjoy, and let’s just say that the hero was my absolute favorite kind. A little damaged, a little gruff, the kind I enjoy sweeping up into my harem of book boyfriends. An unforgettable read.

This book rocked my world. I had no idea what to expect, but I never saw any of that coming. Ophelia’s family business needed money to stay afloat. When an opportunity arose for her to take a job that could give her the money to save her family, she took it. She never imagined the turn her life would take. Being a nanny to two young children can’t be that hard for an unemployed teacher. A small island town that embraces its inhabitants seems like a nice enough place. Her employer is rather prickly, but she won’t see him much, so it should be fine. Ophelia thought the six months she agreed to would fly by and she would go back to her life. Nothing went as planned. This story is complex and emotional. I am still reeling after finishing. This was completely different and nothing I was prepared for. I will definitely be thinking about this story as time passes. It leaves a lasting impression. A well-written, enemies to lovers story with secrets and twists that will turn your world upside down and leave you questioning other people’s actions. Every choice we make has a consequence. Some consequences leave lasting scars. Love and time can heal even the deepest of wounds.
