Description

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella…

Nothing like a little rivalry between scientists to take love to the next level.

Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn…

Logically, Sadie knows that civil engineers are supposed to build bridges. However, as a woman of STEM she also understands that variables can change, and when you are stuck for hours in a tiny New York elevator with the man who broke your heart, you earn the right to burn that brawny, blond bridge to the ground. Erik can apologize all he wants, but to quote her rebel leader—she’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee.

Not even the most sophisticated of Sadie’s superstitious rituals could have predicted such a disastrous reunion. But while she refuses to acknowledge the siren call of Erik’s steely forearms or the way his voice softens when he offers her his sweater, Sadie can’t help but wonder if there might be more layers to her cold-hearted nemesis than meet the eye. Maybe, possibly, even burned bridges can still be crossed….

Okay, so, I binge-read the Loathe to Love You series over the weekend and I think out of the three stories, this one was my least favorite. Really, my only dislike about this book is that the couple’s relationship moves/progresses in a much faster pace than the other two books in the series do, and I prefer a slower burn enemies-to-lovers.I would have enjoyed it more if there was a bit more history between the two characters instead of literally just one date and a misunderstanding, but I get that it’s be difficult to squeeze much more into so few chapters. Nevertheless, this one just wasn’t as enjoyable to me as Hazelwood’s other works.

This novella is so incredibly short, but as much as I still obviously wanted more, I didn’t feel like it was missing anything! I think Ali Hazelwood managed to squeeze every important detail into this book that was necessary. Low page count ≠ lack of spice. 🥵 I would recommend this to any Ali Hazelwood fans or anyone looking for an incredibly quick, spicy read! Let’s not forget, the importance of representation! I love reading from the perspective of women in STEM. ❤️

Currently I would say her first novella and this one are very similar but I don’t like one more than the other. I enjoyed both the same amount. I liked the couple in the first one a lot more but I enjoyed Sadie’s energy lol she seemed very scatterbrained and nervous which I found very relatable because I feel like that a lot. Erik is hot. He really feels like a true Viking in the way he takes a woman and also his behavior. They are stoic but aggressive. He is such a simp for Sadie I loved it so much. Something I really enjoy is the softness the grumps feel for the leading women. It’s truly adorable. My favorite trope is grumpy sunshine.
