Tom prepared well and gathered all his past experience from his previous novels writing about undersea warfare. I enjoyed the various missions he created in a wartime situation. My only issue is he has this sub performing in a wartime scenario with every weapon and Combat System fully operational and failure free. Murphy's law never went to sea with this submarine. This is the missing scenarios that would make the Submarine and it's crew the real threat to the enemy. Their talents and professionalism was left in the shadow zone undetected. I kept anticipating their would be at least one MK48 electrically fired and failed to start. Or a wire broke losing control of the 48 . Or a tomahawk lost in flight. It's still a good read.
