Description

250 years ago, Ascalon burned . . .

Desperate to defend his land from advancing hordes of bestial charr, King Adelbern summoned the all-powerful Foefire to repel the invaders. But magic can be a double-edged sword—the Foefire burned both charr and human alike. While the charr corpses smoldered, the slain Ascalonians arose again, transformed by their king’s rage into ghostly protectors and charged with guarding the realm . . . forever. The once mighty kingdom became a haunted shadow of its former glory.

Centuries later, the descendants of Ascalon, exiled to the nation of Kryta, are besieged on all sides. To save humankind, Queen Jennah seeks to negotiate a treaty with the hated charr. But one obstacle remains. The charr legions won’t sign the truce until their most prized possession, the Claw of the Khan-Ur,is returned from the ruins of fallen Ascalon.

Now a mismatched band of adventurers, each plagued by ghosts of their own, sets forth into a haunted, war-torn land to retrieve the Claw. Without the artifact, there is no hope for peace between human and charr—but the undead king who rules Ascalon won’t give it up easily, and not everyone wants peace!

The book literally keeps you running with the characters . Speaking of characters , they actively have you have an attitude towards them . It took me for a ride that I couldn't predict at any time. Amazing .

I've read it so many times, and now that guild wars is out, I keep going back a noticing new things each time that relate back to the game. It's a wonderful work of art and so much better than the WoW books!

This book would keep me up reading all night. I only played GW1 for a month and this book was a good read for getting ready for GW2. I know what is going on in the game. I get to play with the characters I read about and see the places described in the book. It is awesome.

Good book, easy to read, and gets you right into the story. Last book I read was Halo Ghost of Onyx, and that book really never took off! This book holds your attention right until the end. I would have rated it higher, but it took so darn long to get to Ascalon!!! I guess because they were walking... Lol Still, good read an nice surprise twist at the end!

I really loved this book! Personally had no real background of the Guild Wars story besides playing the Beta for GW2, and absolutely enjoyed reading this book. Awesome characters, descriptions, and story. You don't need any real knowledge of Guild Wars to jump right in. Before you know it, you're done.. And itching for more! Highly recommended. Added bonus: it's also dirt cheap!

As someone who never played the game and knew nothing of it I worried that this book would not be very entertaining. I bought it anyway just to pick up some lore before GW2 came out. I found that not only did it give a great bit of lore but that the characters and storyline provided an interesting and entertaining story. Reaching the last page only a day after purchase made me realize how good the book was. Never played the game? Not a problem, the book stands on its own merit.

This book is easilly worth 8$. Far underpriced in my opinion, anyways, anyone who reads this book is sure to enjoy it. If you play(ed) Guild Ward (Especially Eye Of The North), this book will definatally be worth your time and money. There are pleanty of referances to the game its self, all of which paint an extremely nice menal picture in your mind. If your reading this review and are still not sure about buying the book, trust me, you will love it. -Andrew; Sayde Aviviani
