Description

Travel to medieval Scotland in #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood’s beloved classic—a “rip-roaring romp, full of humor, romance, sword fights, and crisp dialogue...so much fun, it begs to be read in one sitting” (The Cedar Rapids Gazette).

In the dark days after the death of Richard the Lionheart, lives and lands fell into upheaval at the hands of the power-hungry King John and his violent minions. One victim was innocent Gillian, who was just a child when the cruel and ambitious Baron Alford, determined to recover for the despotic king a jeweled box that slipped through his fingers, slaughtered her father and tore her family apart.

A decade later, Gillian once again crosses paths with the nefarious baron, but instead of losing everything like she had as a child, she finds the key to resolving her past in two handsome Scottish chieftains. With the cunning and courage of the daring Scotsmen and the friendship of a new ally named Bridgid KirkConnell, Gillian at last has she what needs to reclaim her home, her family, and her father’s reputation.

But in the presence of the mighty warriors, Gillian and Bridgid discover that desire can be a weapon of conquest, betrayal can slay trust in a heartbeat, and the greatest risk of all is to surrender to unexpected love.

I loved the little boy, Alec, he was delightful with the know whats! Gillian was one tough lady, all heroines should be able to take care of themselves and she did! Was glad to see Brodick finally found someone to love, although I started the Ransom then discovered I should have read The Secret first, read I, then doubled back to Ransom! This could actually been divided into two great books instead of one. Disappointed I didn’t get to read about the gorgeous Ramsey’s and Bridgid’s love story, or is there a sequel coming? Anyway and I loved, loved, loved this book. Takachanc1988

I have read this book several times over the years, it remains one of my favorites. The story has everything. A woman with spirit & strong beliefs of her abilities. A strong & noble man who is also strong & obstinate. A great pair? But above everything is the humor? It comes through out the story. The book is a tale of honor & protecting others from harm. It is not a comedy, just the fact that she is quite naive & innocent. Fabulous story. I will surely read it again.
  • Wish there was a sequel!

One of my top go to historical romance novels. However I wish Ramsey and Brigid had their own book. This book was actually the second in the series. Must read for all romance book lovers.

This book was great. I disagree that beauty is all a woman needs review The heroine has many great qualities. She does even consider herself beautiful people tell her. You immediately connect with her! A must read!
