Not as fast paced or novel as his prior books. Character development took front seat to action. Most disappointing is no new tool or 'art of war' development. Regardless I went through it quickly and wait impatiently for his next

Standard Stirling. However, nothing new here. Either he's building to a grand finale, likely the next book unless he introduces a completely different element, or he is quite at a loss and floundering. Good solid Rudy and Mathilda story..

It was kind of disappointing after the last few books. I have been following this series for years and found the change of pace and rhythm for action to be too slow and too interspersed with internal character development. We got the idea that Artos/Rudi had changed, but it seemed more possessed than evolved. Gave it four stars as it is still a fascinating story line.
