Description

An Apple Books Classic edition.

If you’ve only ever seen Wuthering Heights on screen, you may have an image of Catherine and Heathcliff as the ultimate star-crossed lovers. But that’s just scratching the surface of this iconic Gothic romance. Emily Brontë’s only novel is an unabashedly dark tale of passion and revenge that created shockwaves upon its publication in 1847.

Without spoiling too much, the original Heathcliff is breathtakingly vengeful, cruel, and possessive, not the deeply misunderstood romantic hero of some adaptations. And Brontë’s story does not end happily ever after. After tragedy strikes, Heathcliff haunts the swirling mists of the Yorkshire moors, consumed with possessing a ghost. A must-read for fans of Gothic literature, this novel will appeal to anyone who loves a creepy story.

It’s too long, too depressing, too unrelenting. I think it’s one of the most tiresome books I have read in recent years.

The novel is extremely well written. Although it is an advanced read for some, it is worth the trouble. The novel’s plot is intricate, investing, and heart-wrenching at times. Emily Brontë was incredible at incorporating her real life experiences into her characters which makes them seem so life-like and unique. The themes in this book are spot-on and described in great detail. overall an incredibly enjoyable for those interested in English literature and a great classic for those who love reading! absolutely loved investing myself this book for a bit, and hope that you will enjoy it as well.
  • Twisted Love story

"Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy or boast. It is not proud, rude or self-seeking. It is not easily angry and keeps no record of past mistakes. It does not delight in evil. It rejoices in the truth." This unsettling, unnerving, disturbing and gruesome novel is not for everybody. But in its own peculiar way, it has a special place in my heart as a classic tale, old as time. The beauty of this treasured piece lies in the uncanny, conniving, deceitful and full of hatred protagonists Catherine and Heathcliffe. "Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." Their love hate relationship throughout the years is surreal. They both yearn for each other. Instead of revealing it with love and affection, they hurt each other. It's an abusive Victorian novel, set in Yorkshire wilderness. People who are too uncivil for civilized that the confide themselves to the outskirts of the moor and live in solitude. "Be with me always, take any form drive me mad! Only donot leave me in this abyss, where I can't find you!" Despite the unsettling scenes this read really makes you question if people are born evil or the circumstances they go through and how they are treated by their fellows, molds them into cold hearted, ruthless monsters who is always in pursuit of revenge and oppression. "I have not broken your heart. You have broken it and in breaking it you have broken mine." The emotional magnitude of this book is extensive. The thought provoking and unapologetic quality of Bronte's writing is seductive in its own way. While reading this dark humor story, you might feel the urge to throw it away. Like it's a game of personal endurance. Yet you keep reading because redemption awaits. Despite the poison infused in each character and scene, there is still a lingering concept of hope that keeps you going.

Dumbest woman ever. Knows the guy still loves her dead sister, he TELLS her to steer clear while she throws herself at him, he brutally kills her dog & says he’ll do the same to her if they marry, and surprise, he’s abusive. THEN she plays the victim when she can’t convince him to love her anymore. Don’t waste your time.

There’s love, coming of age, violence, intrigue, the long game, tragedy, envy, malice, redemption, and religion. Something for everybody. I enjoyed it. I enjoy the mildly flowery prose. If you like classics, you’ll like this.

This book is such a classic. It’s a mixture of romance and thriller. It’s intense and heavy but sweet at the rame time. The ending however didn’t satisfy me but overall wonderful book.
