This is an adventure book. A bit slow to get started (for modern audiences, ) it's a very long journey. The descriptions kept it going for me, but I got a bit tired of new adventure, after new adventure, after new adventure, and found the nobility and faith of the children a bit tedious after a while. Henryk Sienkiewicz introduces the reader to a series of adventures that are freshly unique, historically accurate, and truly impossible to predict. He develops his hero, 14 year old Stas Tarkowski, from a boisterous child to a brave – honorable - young man, and leads the reader through settings (truly from desert to wilderness) which are richly described and laced with fascinating facts.
