Description

I chose a championship over love.

When Nova smashed her way into my hardened heart, she showed me there's more to life than basketball.

She taught me patience and forgiveness. With her help, my Kodiak teammates became brothers instead of rivals. For the first time, I cared about more than a game.

But one mistake sent me crashing from all-star to rock bottom.

Broken inside and out, there's no one to blame but myself.

I won't let the people I love suffer for my mistakes, on or off the court. I'll win back the brothers who trusted me, the city that backed me, and the woman I don't want to live without.

Unless I'm too late.

I have one last shot. One last chance.

Countdown's on, and I'm playing for keeps.

Play Maker is the third and final book in the King of the Court series. Clay and Nova's steamy, addictive grumpy sunshine sports romance begins in Game Changer and continues in Shot Taker.

Play Maker is the 3rd book in The King of the Court Series. It should not be read as a standalone. This book was full of banter, sass, funny moments but also sad ones. Oh Piper! Can I just say how much I LOVE Nova and Clay. But, boy this one started off with a bang. Clay realizes that sometimes what you ask or wish for is not always the best. We see him go on a roller coaster of emotions and those around him pay for his choices. He’s lost, depressed, and trying to find his way out of the mess he has caused. He starts to work on himself, working on friendships while remembering what’s important to him. He goes back to fight for himself, his teammates and the woman he loves. Nova showed him how to be patient, kind, and reminded him that he was more than just Basketball. I loved to see his character growth through out the series, especially this book. This love story was angsty, steamy, addictive and full of love, forgiveness, and banter. Great read. Sad to see it end!

Play Maker is book 3 of King of the Court Trilogy! You must read these books in order. If you are familiar with Piper Lawson, you know trilogies are her thing and she rocks at capturing my attention throughout her books. Play Maker picks up right where book 2 left off - Clay and Nova still had so much potential and so much to work through still. Clay is in the position of needing to earn back trust from everyone in his circle. He has so much growth in this book and their relationship was just beautiful at the end and worth it all! Nova was a heroine I crushed on - she was determined, and I just thoroughly enjoyed her character! I loved all the fun banter, and the romance was a perfect blend throughout the books. This was my first basketball romance and I really enjoyed that element of the story but the light being shared with Nova's work was a well-done plot point for me and made the characters both shine with a big part of what made them who they were. I'm sad to see this couple's story come to an end but I'm excited to see what's coming in this world!

What can I say but wow just wow!! I have loved Clay & Nova from the moment on the plane when she told him he should play basketball to him helping her deal with her fear of flying! I feel like saying anything would be a spoiler. Piper did an incredible job with these characters. From bringing Nova’s inner strength & fierceness to the surface to Clay overcoming his own inner turmoil. These characters grew so much in such a short period of time but they both learned what it means to have a family on and off the court. I can not what for all the other Kodiaks’ stories!!!
  • Fantastic finale

I can’t believe this is the conclusion of Clay and Nova’s story! It so lived up to all of my expectations and the back and forth angst that Piper Lawson made us all suffer through. LOL Throughout the series, each of these characters grew so much, but really none more than Clay. I loved watching his journey unfold and the huge part Nova had in making him both believe and appreciate himself. And I’m return, loving Nova even more, and being able to express it, fully and finally. I’m not going to dissect the book. I’m just going to appreciate the time and love that the author brought to the storyline and the characters. And give her a big ole 5 stars…because that’s all we’re allowed to give!

The payoff… Book three in the trilogy. Clay has gotten traded to LA. But you know things aren’t going well before they even get settled. Nova follows him out and they are steamy, but following their usual patterns of things going well, then not, then breaking up, sees Nova moving back to Colorado and it’s only then Clay actually starts doing some real work on himself and his attitude. Recommend. 4.5
