I have read several books from the previous series and was excited to pick up where they left off. I felt like Gina was the one person in the previous series that was not fully fleshed out, so it is nice to get to know her better here. The book was a fun read; I finished it in a day. It was interesting and kept my attention. I liked the perspective of Daisy, the dog. It was a cute addition. I am looking forward to reading more and seeing how these relationships develop! I will keep following Carly Winter to follow the lives of the residents of Haywood I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Some of these characters and places may seem familiar to you if you’ve read the Heywood Herbalist series. However you do not have to have read those books, although I do recommend them, to enjoy this story. In this story we follow Gina a woman of many trades as she tries to clear her older brother Vic of murder charges which she’s 99% sure he’s innocent of. She has helped solve a mystery or two before but this is the first time she’s lead the investigation. Luckily she has the help of her talking canine companion Daisy who picks up clues that a human could not. She also works in tandem with Trevor a deputy in the sheriff’s department who believes that Vic is innocent as well. What you can expect a town full of eccentrics, silly doggie shenanigans, a woman trying to figure out her next chapter in life now that her son is off in college and a thorny mystery with a lot of suspects and light on evidence that doesn’t point to Vic. Most of all you’ll get an enjoyable cozy to while away an afternoon or evening with and a new series to love!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
