Description

Homicide Detective Eve Dallas hunts a killer who turns a wedding party into a murder scene in the next novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author, J.D. Robb, Passions in Death.

On a hot August night, Lt. Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, speed through the streets of Manhattan to the Down and Dirty club, where a joyful, boisterous pre-wedding girls’ night out has turned into a murder scene. One of the brides lies in a pool of blood, garroted in a private room where she was preparing a surprise for her fiancée—two scrimped and saved-for tickets to Hawaii.

Despite the dozens of people present, useful witnesses are hard to come by. It all brings back some bad memories for Eve who once suffered an assault in the very same room—but she’d been able to fight back and survive. She’d gotten justice. And now she needs to provide some for poor young Erin.

Eve knows that the level of violence and the apparent premeditation involved suggest a volatile mix of hidden, heated passion and ice-cold calculation. This is a crime that can be countered only by hard detective work and relentless dedication—and Eve will not stop until she finds the killer who destroyed this couple’s dreams before the honeymoon even began…

I was tempted to stop reading several times, but wanted to see how bad it could get. Eve repeats the same thing to the same people throughout the book, and nothing happens for 3/4 of it. I also wonder what the whole “futuristic” time placement adds to this series. The ‘link is a cell phone, the “tube” is a can, the flying cars don’t do anything to add to the story. Just useless gimmicks. I had read a few of these books, but I’m done now with the “in death” series. You should save your money too

It was ok. Kind of dragged on some. I’ve read better from this series.

As a huge fan of the series for many years, I was disappointed. Most characters in long-running series mature and evolve. In this case the heavy overuse of current slang or jargon felt forced, and immature, for characters that have grown, matured, and developed families. The first half of the book read as if it was written for a text message, without flow, and in an artificially clipped style. Lastly, this book lost the assumption that the reader is somewhat intelligent. Almost like using caricature “POW” comments in a comic book. I hope future books resume the former literary talent.

Save your money on this book and skip to the next one. Of all the In Death books I have read, I’ve never skipped so many chapters just to see who did it. I can’t explain how boring this book is, so I’m suggesting you don’t waste your money. Did J. D. Robb write this book? That should be the title. It didn’t have the feel of the previous In Death books. Too much humor in the first and middle chapters. I can almost see her allowing someone else to write this book since it has all the main characters stuck in it here and there. As I said before you can save your money on this one. I tried to give it 1 star but it wouldn’t allow it. So I’m telling you, this book didn’t measure up to all the previous ones. Plus, it took me 4 days, off and on to even come back and finish it.
