Second book had me at full force within the first page. Could not put this book down, I ended up finishing it in one day! It’s impossible to guess who’s the real bad guy and who’s just good. I like how some of the characters from the first book are peppered in the story here and there in the background. Looking forward to book #3

I am a big fan of really well written romantic suspense and Toni Anderson is one of the best authors writing today in this genre. Her books always include intricately created suspense, strong women and heroes with well rounded characters accompanying their muscles. There is just the right amount of jeopardy, sizzle and humour and every aspect is meticulously researched. I can’t recommend Toni Anderson’s books highly enough if you enjoy romantic suspense and we beautiful written yarn.

As with “A Cold Dark Place,” I almost didn’t put this book down until I finished. Honestly, some of the best books I’ve ever read. Already have downloaded Book 3, accidentally read Book 4 first, and will read the entire series. Very well written, an easy read, and I don’t remember even seeing a comma out of place (which greatly impresses this old typesetter and graphics woman). Now, on to Book 3......

Book 2 in this series starts with Vivi treating her son Michael, who is a mute, to an afternoon at a smaller size mall of America. On page 2 she is literally pushed down by a man exiting a toy store. An on leave FBI agent, Jed helps her up. One page 4 there are multiple gunshots in the mall. The running is throughout this entire book. Michael is able to draw pictures of 3 of the terrorists. Off to a safe house, oops gun fire, off to Jed’s parents camp grounds, oops gun fire. Frazer and Parker are here as well. This book is very action packed. More suspense than romance but the romance is still there. Interesting little quirk at the end of the book. I am so loving this series.

Tense thriller about an act of terrorism in a popular shopping mall written in such vivid detail as the reader you felt like you were living the nightmare right along with the characters. Sometimes it hard to envision scenes in a book but when it’s written in or about a location you’ve been to before it makes it all so real in your mind and very scary. Even though the name is changed a bit it takes place in the Mall of America in Minnesota. Could you imagine multiple gunmen opening fire right there in the middle of Nickelodeon Universe? All the families and small children? Well that’s the opening scene in this book and it was downright scary. Vivi Vincent is there with her 8 year old son when the shooting starts which thrust them both into a nightmare that doesn’t end when the shooting stops as her son who is mute and traumatized might have seen and heard the terrorist plot which might have more of an endgame than just the mall shooting. Jed Brennan is a FBI agent that was forced to take a vacation after his last job a tracking down a serial killer. He happens to be at the mall that day shopping when the shooting starts and is not only instrumental in getting both Vivi and her son out but also realizing that they are still in danger and takes them into protective custody. Both characters have had some bad experiences in the past in relationships so when they find that there is a spark between them even with all the danger surrounding them they fight it as long as they can. Jed was a great hero who not only fought to protect them but also was great with the son and his “issues”. The author keeps your attention throughout the book not only with the danger to Vivi and her son but also having us as the readers be fully aware of the who and why of the terrorist. As an American I’ve never understood cultures that thrive off the killing of innocents for some cause and have little sympathy for those that carry out the killing of children. As with the first book in this series this one was intense from beginning to end and justice served to those that deserved it. Looking forward to seeing who’s next in the series as we were introduced to some characters that I think would for interesting hero’s in future books.

“A Cold Dark Place” is vivid story that comes alive. The story is a example of great both good bad characters, mystery and manipulation, intrigue, and excellent story development. Readers come to embrace key characters and support characters. Anderson leaves nothing to chance as she takes her readers by their hands walks up to Agent Mallory Roony. Through Roony’s eyes she shows readers the horrors of a serial killer. Anderson’s plot delivers romance, thrills and suspense in her creative style. She gives her readers unexpected surprises until there are no more pages to read. “A Cold Dark Place,” is written as an experience of life. She develops her characters and as her story progresses. In the story’s sub plot Anderson develops a complex relationship between FBI Agent Mallory Roony, a member FBI’s BAU team investigating the case of the missing women and Alex Parker the assassin for Gateway. The Gateway group take the law into their hands delivering a vigilante justice. Roony uncovers existence of the group and Gateway know Roony is investigating. These twists and turns to the story add an interesting dimension to the connection between Mallory Roony and Alex Parker. Agent Mallory Roony and Alex Parker are on a collusion course towards each other. The well-developed support characters enter the story line as Anderson needs them. Readers feel Anderson is taking them on an uphill path adding twists or turns the “A Cold Dark Place” storyline. Anderson keeps the story moving giving characters the ability to involve readers, keeping them moving through the story all the way to the end. When they turn the last page, she releases her hold on them. In “A Cold Hard Place” Toni Anderson sets the stage to deliver a story about people who want to do good things and are willing to sacrifice to get the job done. It is a heart stopper full of suspense and gives readers who are romantics at heart a spine-tingling ending. This is a great story as Anderson’s first book in her Cold Justice series. I recommend and give a 5 star ranking.
